    Epg Skybox F3

    Hi

I'd imagine this is a stupid question but what the hell I'm gonna say it

Why cant we have a channel editor/guide that's similar too sly, i.e one were you can see whats on next and for the rest of the day.
I find thats the biggest downfall on the box is not being able to know what on next and for rest the of the day.
I know there is a an epg but that's not much use as on my box it don't populate until you move down to the channel and then it turns the channel over to that channel.

I will say that I'm very grateful for the work the guys do on creating these channel list, as i would not have the foggiest were to start.

    Thanks

SkyTV boxes are quite a bit more technologically endowed compared to a cheap 50 quid ching wong satellite receiver.. For a box that gets anywhere near to the functionality of a proper SkyTV box you need to spend considerably more than 50 quid... Full 28.2e EPG on a 50 quid receiver aint never gonna happen...

Thanks for the explanation, i sort of gathered if it could have been done then it would have been done by now. Its a pity really cause could have really topped of a superb cheap box.
What do you use as epg instead ?

        Thanks

I browse the EPG on my Tivo, then when Ive found out what I wanna watch I flip over to the satellite box ...

Blade 7000 or the Technomate 5402 are the cheapest "easy to use" receivers that support full epg, they're about 150 quid each.... Or you have to take the Linux based receivers route...

I would imagine if enough F3/4/5 owners contacted the firmware producers perhaps if it is at all possible they could perhaps implement it into the next firmware update

              No Harm in trying

I say it will never happen... I doubt the hardware resources on the box are even capable, and besides, these cheapo boxes have been out a good couple of years now, I doubt the developers would want to spend too much time tweaking just to satisfy the UK market, the boxes are sold the world over....

What the manufacturers over there in China should do is bring out a slightly more expensive model of Skybox/Openbox but with similar hardware & feature set to that of a Blade 7000 or TM 5402, but considerably cheaper 'cause all they would do is probably clone one of them...

I have an F3 I use upstairs and the epg is rubbish, I did buy a Vu+ Duo and it is fantastic, in some ways its menus are better than S*y. So it is worth thinking about upgrading for a better epg experience (I pulled the old HD s*y box to bits and installed the hard drive in the Vu+ too as the s*y boxes go for very little on ebay)

Only you can decide, but if you really desire a proper EPG for 28.2e then you'll have to, because you aint gonna get it with cheapo 50 quid Openbox/Skybox receiver...
