    Hi

Yeh no need but I always upped it to the next rating within reason when I used to change them before in the old days. Whats more important is that they are 105 degrees.

    Regards

Just found the ones that I used to repair my PSU a few months ago. I have always prefered Panasonics for repairing TVs, monitors etc.

      1000uf 10v 105c Panasonic LOW ESR x5pcs | eBay

They just about squeeze into the space. The seller may also do a 16v version. If so, and the dimensions are no larger than the 10v version, then you may prefer them.

I ordered mine mid-afternoon & they were delivered the following morning.

        Thanks for the help

I've found the 16v version from the same seller (1000uf 16v 105c LOW ESR Panasonic series x4pcs | eBay), they are 25x10mm so 9mm taller than the 10v version, do you think they will be ok height wise? I can't see any potential obstructions on the box but just in case. I do have a limited electronics knowledge but not really too sure what the benefit would be of a 16v over the 10v, is it more protection against voltage peaks etc?

I did also order some of these last night (10 x 10V 1000uF 105?C electrolytic radial Capacitor | eBay), are they cheapos do you reckon?

Looking at the inside of my Skybox S11, I think the 16v version of the Panasonic type would just come level with the top case, so it might not be suitable. You don't want it pressing against the case.

Some people prefer to use a higher voltage type when changing caps for the reasons you give, but I prefer to keep to the original spec. I believe that electrolytic capacitors do not perform too well if you use one that's rated a lot higher than the voltage it has to handle. Although a 16v type on a 5v supply should be OK.

I prefer to use known good makes such as Panasonics. I notice that there is no brand name mentioned for the ones you ordered. They will work OK, but for how long?

Just to let you know i've sorted 2 of the boxes just by changing the C11 (1000uf 10v) cap with those in the link above, the 16v were too tall as you said. Thanks again for you help!

For anyone looking to do the same, the original C11 (1000uf) cap needs a bit of persuasion to come out but a bit of heat and pulling and it comes out!

I would still recommend the Panasonic ones from here:-

                1000uf 10v 105c Panasonic LOW ESR x5pcs | eBay

They work out at 42p each after adding p&p, & you will have a few for your spares box.

I have just looked at my Maplin catalogue (as the website doesn't give you any specs for their capacitors). Their 1000uF 16v high temp cap (DT69A) has a diameter of 10mm & height of 16mm, so it will fit on the board OK. Here's a link (you have to scroll down the list to find it):-

Good to hear. Did this work for the 3rd box, or haven't you tried it yet?

Also good to hear. The Maplin cap is the same size as the Panasonic ones that I got. They are slightly bigger than the original, but luckily there is a bit of room around the C11 position, so it just about fits.

What did you do with the old one?

You might get a few ?'s back selling it on Ebay.

Hi All, My S11 has gone the same way, no display and a very very faint what I would describe as high pitched noise you can hear with the lid off, but unsure if I would say ticking noise .... I've taken the cover off and it looks like the c11 and the c15 have slightly bulged on the top, could they both have gone ? or should i do the c11 first and then the c15 ? Also when I say bulged its so slight I'd not have noticed if I'd not read this link, is just the slightest of bulges enough to stop it working ?

                            I would change both.

I found the fault on my PSU using an ESR meter. C11 on my PSU looked perfectly normal. No bulging. No discharge. But it had still gone bad.

If the top of the capacitor looks even slightly bulged compared to the others, then it is probably on it's way out.

C15 is also a 10v capacitor, and is the one that also fails, along with C11.

The voltage should be printed on the side somewhere.
