Good Day, I just received my skybox f5, and now im rigging it up. When I moved into the house the sat cable did not have a fixing so I sourced a female RG6 connector and put that onto the cable. I put this cable into the connection LNB IN 13/18v which is next to the one labelled loop. I plugged in the HDMI cable and the Ethernet cable and then the dc cable; the skybox booted up but it has no signal on the box. Does that mean there is no signal from the dish on the side of the house? Ive never used the sat dish before as it was here when I moved in and in between then and now I was using a starview on cable. How do I check that the dish is working? Or am I setting up the box wrong? There is a channel list which has some dollar signs next to them; am I supposed to link it to some sat dish in the settings or something? Would appreciate the help. Apologies for one paragraph, it wont space when pressing enter.

Is the box set up for S l y UK (28.2e)? Do you have BBC1, BBC2 ITV1 etc. on your channel list?
The channels with the dollar signs are the scrambled ones.
I take it that your connector was fitted correctly. It should be an "F" type male connector. It may be worth double checking that there are no stray wires shorting the outer braid to the centre wire.
Is the dish pointing in the same direction as all the other dishes in your street? It may sound like a silly question, but perhaps your previous owners watched channels from a different satellite.
What satellite is shown in the "installation" menu > "Antenna setup"? And is the LNB freq. set to "universal (9750 - 10600)"?Last edited by Hadron; 11 April, 2013, 19:01. -
Hi Hadron, thanks for replying. Yes its is exactly as you said; set up for sly UK and with E28.2. On the channel it has all you have mentioned. The wire seems fine, has the F connector as mentioned and I trimmed it further back, pulled back the stray wire so that the center copper wire has more of an extension. What I haven't checked is the direction of the other dishes, which I noticed on other streets but forgot to check on mine. I will report back with what it says on the menu mate. Thanks againComment

Hadron, via installation > antenna setup I have the following: Satellite - (1/1) Sky UK, LNB Freq - Universal (9750-10600), Transponder (10/92) 10847 V 23000, Position No.&Save - 1, DiSEC1.0 - was disabled but now says port1 after editing, DiSEqC1.1 - 1Cascade M1: Port1 (again before was disable). The Signal intensity is @ 44% and Signal quality is @ 10% and that stays the same when I remover the satellite cable. Does that mean there is no signal from the dish? As mentioned earlier, I thought it may have been the cable and that the copper wire inside was not long enough so I trimmed back the external cable, pulled back the stray wire and twisted the F connector on again and reinserted. FYI the installation antenna menu has long and lat @ 00.00. Satellite list has Sly UK, longitude E28.2, LNB 9750-10600, basically the same as above. When I do a blind scan, preset or accurate no programs are detected. TP List just has loads of frequency numbers. Hope that's the information you need to help. Thanks a lot.Comment

Get the dish aligned you just can't get it by your neighbours. Andy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-Screw-o...item230a6c5a9cLast edited by andy91; 12 April, 2013, 11:03.New Members http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/fo rums/f5/forum-rules-2/ A Good Place To Start

First of all, set both of your DiSEqC settings back to "disable". They are only needed if you use a DiSEqC switch to combine multiple LNB's.Hadron, via installation > antenna setup I have the following: Satellite - (1/1) Sky UK, LNB Freq - Universal (9750-10600), Transponder (10/92) 10847 V 23000, Position No.&Save - 1, DiSEC1.0 - was disabled but now says port1 after editing, DiSEqC1.1 - 1Cascade M1: Port1 (again before was disable). As long as you have around 3mm of the central wire protruding past the outer shell of the F plug, so that it can be inserted into the socket before screwing it in, then that should be fine.
Either there is no signal getting to the box, or the tuner in the box is faulty. It is more likely the former.
I am wondering why the plug was disconnected from the cable in the first place? It's not very likely, but it's possible that the dish/LNB is so old that it's an old analogue type. But it would have to be a very old installation for that to be true. The dish would also point to 19.2e, rather than 28.2e.
Also, as andy91 pointed out, it may just be that over time the dish may have moved & needs realigning.
Can you take your box round to someone who has a working s l y setup, or do you have (or can you borrow) any other type of satellite receiver that you can try with your dish?Comment

Thanks for the replies.
When I'm back home, I'll put them back to disabled.
The cable has 3mm protuding so that's fine. Will I have to check the connection at the dish?
How do I even check I am getting a signal from the dish? I'm tempted to get a new installation but don't want to waste any money if my current dish will work with a simple fix.
Guess I will have to check on the alignment, is there a way to align them DIY or is it pro only?
The box is brand new too

The only cheap & easy way to check if your dish/LNB is working is by attaching it to a known working box. That's why I was wondering if you had, or knew someone, with any kind of working satellite box (FTA, Freesat, or S l y subscription box). Or if you know someone with a working setup, then perhaps take your box to them & see if it works. Thanks for the replies.

If the dish is easy to get to, it won't do any harm to check the connection at the LNB end. If you do, make a note of the make/model of the LNB.Last edited by Hadron; 13 April, 2013, 10:28.Comment

Hi guys, I have a aerial specialist here, he has replaced the LNB which was not providing a signal and now it is. He has interrupted the cable with a signal reading in between the lnb and the box and he is getting a signal. So we know that we now have a signal but I till cant get fta channels?? The box is loaded with Sly UK channel list as well. The box is brand new too. Does it have to be on a certain transponder freq? Signal intensity is 42% and quality is 10%. When I removed the cable it stays the same, does that mean anything?? To scan I go to single satellite search > settings are Sly UK, FTA only - Yes, Scan channel - TV + Radio, Scan mode - Blind scan and then I search to find no programs found.
