What should I buy (money is a bit scarce)

I do not own any of the tech yet (I am a self-confessed technophobe) but I am just switching to Sky from Virgin Media and as a result I will only have a Sky+ HD box. I was planning buying a Skybox F5 HD, hooking it to my skydish and then at least being able to get some service in my bedroom without the ?10.25 multi-room fee, the reason for changing supplier was all financial based due to losing my job. Will the F5 do what I want (FTA stuff), do I need any tech ability or is it just plug and play as the ebay suppliers claim. If I get one with Sky channel list on it does that mean I can view my free to view Sky channels on it? Any ideas, advice, guidance or help would be appreciated. I am dumb-founded at the minute and just need a push in the right direction. Many thanks

I expect that it would come with all the channels preinstalled on the box. You can get the channel update from aj's channel update which will have all the latest freeview channels on there if you are missing any. Dont forget you will still need satelite cable from your dish if you have one of these boxes. For freeview it will be cheaper just to pick up a cheap freeview box as you will get a better epg than the box you are looking at as they only have now and next in the epg.

get an f3 cheaper and more reliable than an f5 , if you want a cheap easy to use box,f3 is the one.Limited epg, record only what you're watching, but this is same for f5.

If it's only free view stuff your after then i wouldn't go with any of these, epg is non existent, give it a couple weeks and you be picking these up on eBay for peanuts as they will all be free view only soon and without an epg they will be poor at that

The op was looking for cheap options, no harm in that is there? the way things are today. If your implication re c/s does become reality there will be equally as many top end boxes available cheap.

The satellite receiver offers something that is different from a freeview receiver and that's add a motor then you get fta from the other satellites around Europe why restrict yourself to just 28.2e.

The OP doesn't say if he has a terrestrial aerial or not. It seems that a lot of people these days don't bother, as they rely on their satellite dish.

Basides, can you pick up an HD Freeview receiver with external PVR function for under ?50?
