    F3 Stuck in boot cycle

i got a f3 box of a guy i know and set it up and it worked fine but would freeze a couple of times whilst connected by ethernet cable so i thought i must be the connection at the dish so i went out unplugged and reconnected but when i came back in to my suprise the box is now stuck in load cycle and i dont have the guys number, if i use the recovery tool do i need firmwire too? i have no idea what software was on the box as i never went into it to find out i am begining to wish i would have just left it freezing every few minutes.

any help would be great and thanks in advance.

    Power the box off
    Remove the Sat cable
    Power the box On
If its ok now (Not Rebooting)
Power off and make sure the sat cable connections are clean. ie. outer strands not touching inner, f connector ends screwed on correctly.

    Try again
