    Jumpy/blocking picture F5

    Hi.

I am new to this, so please be gentle!

I have recently purchased a F5 Skybox from eBay together with a free gift. However, I get jumpyness on most of the channels, including sound breakup and pixelation. I have tried to connect the box via Wifi and also Ethernet cable. I have been in touch with the person that sold it to me to ask if the software should be updated as when I look at the info, it says it is a March software version.

    So my questions are:

    1. Would updating the software sort out the problem. I have a Sky TV system setup in the house and there is no jumpy picture. The quad LNB was installed only 4 weeks ago.
    2. I cannot get certain channels that other members say i should and the way to fix it is via the diode version (search ebay 'no signal fix for Openbox....') If I get one of these will it sort out my other problems.

Its driving me mad. I want to return the box, but the seller seems reluctant to do so.

    Help!!!

unplug the other box and if it still does it then its a problem with the box also I remember reading somewhere that some box don't like certain lnbs so could be this or down to the diode, try the box on its own 1st cos at least your know the box is ok then

How are your FTA channels? Do you get any break-up with those?

        Thanks ajax2061.

All other boxes have been unplugged and it still does it. Diode will hopefully arrive tomorrow and i hope that may solve it. Do you not think it is due a software update? Also if I do update it, does it remove the network settings and i loose my gift?

          Hi Hadron

I think they are ok. Need to take time and check.

I tried going through some of the channels but then the box locked up again. Thats the other problem!!

Clone? Does that mean a copy of a box? Thats not good. If I buy one on ebay, how would i know if it is cloned? Sorry, i am new to all of this!

You already appear to have the latest firmware. March 2013 was the latest release:-

Download / Software / Skybox F3/F5/M3_Shenzhen Yojia Technology Co., Ltd.

If you do ever want to update it, it's essential that you back up your old image & gift details first, as they will be lost, along with the channel list. I'm sure one of the stickies has the details for backing up. If you received your gift details seperately, then it doesn't matter, as you can always put the line back in again.

The fact that it also locks up doesn't sound good though!

The diode in-line amplifier (certain lnb's) would only fix the missing channels. The problems sounds like one of two things it could either be your ISP or your gift, talktalk's old router seemed to cause a problem also vm super hub caused some problem too if I remember rightly if it is not that then could be your gift that is why it is advisable not to buy receiver with gift, not only are you paying too much you don't know if the gift is good or not or if it will disappear well before it's expiry date.

Details on how to back up your files are in the sticky at the top of this section (Aj's list)-you could the try a firmware update as mentioned earlier the reinstall your updated channel list and gift line.If all that fails get your isp to do a line check or use speedtest.net to test that your broadband line is in good condition.(fast ping low jitter etc') Hope you resolve the problem.

I had similar glitches with my Sky lnb and whilst using a cheap network cable...upgraded both and its been perfect since.....the sky lnb also hated having 2 boxes running at the same time.....some sky lnb's are cheap and nasty.
