    Finding the "right" box (openbox/skybox)

    Hi, I'm new here!

I am looking for the right box but it seems to be hard to figure out what seems to be the best box.
There are loads of them s9,s10,s11, f3,f5, x3,x5 and so on

I thought according to some googling that the Skybox F5 was the best option.
But now after reading through the Openbox/skybox forum I'm not so sure anymore.
Seems like lots of boxes dying, broken usb....

Should I rather go for S10 or 12 or is that the same case?

    Any advice appreciated

    Thanks in advance!

    /Zedith

It appears that the most reliable would be the F3

Even the newer models of the F3 seem to be causing problems now I think this is because manufacturer is going for the very cheapest components and not the quality, spend a few more pounds and go for something other than the openbox/skybox but if you still want to go for one of these boxes try the X3 not come across that many posts about that breaking down also do not go for the X5 because it use a weird .bin format for it's channel list that is if like me you are lazy, I prefer to use AJ's channel list and thank him for his hard work.

Dont speak to soon I have one here waiting for a combined Ethernet and Serial ports replacement. Other than that I have had one power spply unit fail. Out of the number I've had its not what I would call a problem compared to what I hear about the F5.

            Thanks for all the answers!
            I'll look into this further

Are the S11 boxes just outdated? I know few who have had them for some time without problems.
They could of course just be lucky

I have an S11 working without any problems but there is no longer firmware support therefore no new features will get added, it is outdated, if money no problem go for a better box you will not regret it, the problems the newer openboxes/ skyboxes are getting the money you save will mean a lot of time you will be wasting to get them working or to stay working.

Go for the F3/M3.. most of them are the same thing more or less
F4 has an extra scart, if you prefer that

I have an F3 and it's a decent basic box. Good HD and easy to setup. It's HDMI only so no scart. Get one for around ?45 -50 mark.
