is this an full handshaking rs232 cable????? green, white, orange and blue conductors

Hi all, trying to sort skybox f5 which has 'e001 error'. followed the instruction and getting stb error.

Read in one of the posts that a full handshaking rs232 cable is required. So i stripped my cable, there are four conductors. green, orange, white and blue.

is this cable a full handshaking rs232 cable????

    any help much appreciated.

    Regards.

    --------

i just stripped another cable. this one has alot more conductors.

green, blue, orange, yellow, black, pink, white, pasty green? and red

confused as both cable have rs232 male rs232 connectors.

    --------------

also can someone point me to a usb rs232 cable. much rather use laptop then old pc. old pc also has female rs232/no pins. ?15 max for cable delivered.

1st cable - old eurovox cable

Despite what some members say, full handshaking is not required.

The Openbox/Skybox receivers only use 3 pins internaly. What you need to make sure of, is that it is a null modem lead. This type of lead will have pins 2 & 3 swapped over & pin 5 connected straight through. If you have (or can borrow) a multimeter, you can buzz out the lead to verify this:-

    pin2 - pin3
    pin3 - pin2
    pin5 - pin5

These leads are normally female to female, with a male connector on the pc.
