Skybox playback stops at 20 minutes

    Hi
I have a Pace Sky + box . Last night while watching a programme that had been recorded it stopped after 20 minutes, it showed the info that the full programme had recorded but when you try to fast foreward it shows whatever is live on the tv at the time. I tried starting the viewing again, & viewer defined etc etc. I have 20% memory free. I unplugged the box took out card & plugged back in & put card back, but the same problem occurs.
Any ides as to what might be the problem.

    Thanks D.

If its an original $ly + as in PVR3/4 then this is a sign of either a failing Hard Drive or Failing PSU unit, may not be the best option but contact $ly direct and ask for a home visit which will result in a new box being offered which will also sadly mean your recordings are gone

You say that it's a $ly+ box, so I assume it's quite old. Is it a white Thomson box?

As digicon says, failing capacitors in the PSU can cause all kinds of problems. They normally bulge or leak. Does it also take longer to start up than it did when new?

Also a planner rebuild can sometimes help with recording/playback problems (similar to defragging your pc's hard drive).

First response from $ly is that they will want you pay for the engineer to come to you then they will try to charge you for replacement box, the quickest way to get new box for free is to go to cancellations at this stage don't let them get away with trying charge you for something.

Thanks for replies so far, its a white Pace box & quite old. at the moment not all recordings show this problem, ie we recorded & watched shows in last couple of days, but the problem appears to be on recordings made while we were away from home a few weeks ago. I have done the planner rebuild & its still the same, looks like a replacement box might be needed.

It's possible then whilst you were away a few weeks ago & it was recording, it's possible the signal was lost at that time as you say more recent recordings are fine.

A loss of satellite signal will result in loss of recording as there would be nothing being received at that time.

Seems odd that all the fails happen at 20 minutes into recordings from different days, timing shows full time was recorded, no signal lost, technical faults showing.

If your sure its the Box and nothing else my siggestion would be to source a HD box from the online auction site expect to pay anything between ?25 and possible ?40 but you will still be in pocket as the callout is ?65 unless as stated you do the Cancel contract due to extortionate call out fee and see what happens
