Updating SkyBox f3 firmware

Hello I'm just looking some guidance updating the f3 firmware i have to upgrade to the youtube functionality. Firstly, would the one i downloaded (from SkyBox | SkyBox) be safe? Also i followed several guides and seen that I have to dump the 'sea lion' file to usb first in order to put it back on after the update. The guides i read said to check you dumped correctly by opening the file on notepad but nothing appeared when i tried and so i didnt go ahead with the upgrade because I was afraid of losing my sea lion. Any guidance in general on updating and this issue would be appreciated.

I assume you bought the box with a so called rip off gift included if so this should not matter you should be able to do a backup of your sea lion as you say and read the information contained within using either standard notepad or notepad++

Would not bother with the YouTube app anyway mate, it is rubbish at best
