    Skybox or Openbox

What are the main differences between a SKYBOX and OPENBOX?

I get the idea that OPENBOX is Linux based so should be more configurable... Is that the case?

I also read somewhere that I can run a browser on OPENBOX - if so, that would be brilliant!!!

They are made by the same manufacturer. Openbox was the name given to the (now) older boxes. Newer boxes are called SkyBox.

The firmware is closed firmware meaning not configurable. A browser isn't possible on any of them but not sure about OpenBox X5.

These boxes are cheap, easy-to-use/setup but adequate HD boxes for around ?50.

Other boxes like VU+solo and other Linux based boxes are configurable but cost upwards of ?150.

It's strange that they went back to the Openbox brand temporarily when they released the X3.

      I also have an Openbox branded S11 & a Skybox branded S11.

It is strange but firmware for openbox and skybox s11 (and other similar named models) are interchangable pretty much meaning same box just named differently! They probably had a reason for having slightly different branded/worded boxes despite being the same but who knows what it was!!!

Prob another manufacturer called Openbox. ? clone

see Download / Software_Shenzhen Yojia Technology Co., Ltd.

I personally couldn't say whether it is supported the same (ie channel lists like AJ's or Sattv5 and any firmware may be hard to come by).

There is now a openbox 6000hd a linux box which is a vu+solo clone I think a better option then the other openboxes/skyboxes because it is a linux box.

How much should I expect to pay for one of these?

                Presumably it does IPTV...

Any where between ?80 - ?100 but if it is near the hundred mark I would expect a fan to be fitted.
