i'd suggest using a hdd with its own power supply and a large hdd if recording hd channels, i haven't tried recording on the f5 but on the openbox s9 i had no problem.
These boxes don't have an EPG, they only have now/next, so there's no way to set a timer recording from the EPG, it has to be done manually. It has 8 timer sttings in the menu. You can also press the Record button while watching a channel & it will record for 2 hours.
Don't know what you mean by the pause feature. If you play back a recording & press pause, it will...err...pause.
Ok so would the USB be ok to use as the data storage? I ment pause the program I'm watching then just press play to carry on, and yes select certain programs to recorded when on, also can you set a reminder when a program is about to start?

I cant see why not but if using a USB stick then it is advisable to get the fastest read/write speed you can afford and not some cheap no name one to ensure reliability when Pause/Record

In the PVR settings menu, timeshift can be switched to ON to pause the channel you are watching & then played when ready.
If you want to record a programme that is not on the now/next menu (which are the only programmes you can see on the EPG button) then all timer recordings have to be done manually, like in the old VHS recorder days (before videoplus). You can record the channel you are watching by pressing the record button. This will record for 2 hours by default.
You can set a timer automatically from a programme on the EPG, but, as mentioned, you are limited to now/next only.
Setting reminders is also done through the EPG (now/next only) or manually through the timer menu. You can set it manually to switch to a channel at a certain time, but at the end of the duration setting, it will switch the box off! I have tried setting the duration to 0 but it doesn't accept it. I suppose setting it to 99 hrs should be long enough! LOL.
