Does your pc/laptop have a serial port (9 pin male connector)? It's the same as the connector on the other end of your 4 pin adapter). It could be labeled "10101" or similar. If not, then the best place to start is by borrowing a pc or laptop from someone whose computer does have a dedicated port. USB to RS232 serial adapters are available, but they don't always work.yes its dead it was working then i tried to update it and now it doesnt come on there is just 2 green dashes on front when turning it on it needs the rs232 cable thing done to it i got one from china with the 4 pins but i havent a clue i cant link it up to computer to the com port any help would be well appreciated im simple im not a tech person cheers for responding
Once you have done that, you need to connect the RS232 port on the pc to the 9 pin connector on the adapter. This has to be a null modem cable, & not a straight serial cable. They look the same, but are wired differently. The null modem cable has pin 2 connected to pin 3, pin 3 connected to pin 2, & pin 5 connected to pin 5. It doesn't have to be full handshaking type.
Then follow the instructions in the link above.
The fimware for the S12 is available here:-

It is very difficult for the s12 to get flashed, the usb to null modem adapter doesn't seem to work with s12 and it uses a odd 4pin port for rs232 connection to the null modem, for which the cable is no longer available your best hope is to make one up your self.Comment
