You need a Null Modem cable and read the Guide carefully: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-cable-233298/

I have seen the guide, it mentions using a null modem cable 9 pin adapter, but as I mentioned this cable wil not be compatible with my laptop, any alternative connection cables?

You will also need a USB to Serial adaptor. A lot have problems with these but if done correctly they are not a problem.

This one has the chipset that I have and also comes with a driver disc. A key mistake a lot make is not identifying the correct comm port.

Plugable USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter (Prolific PL2303HX Rev D Chipset): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Thanks guys, might need this cable sooner 2 watch footy at weekend. Maplins do one in coventry for 19.99, might have to buy it.

Not sure whether it has the driver or chipset will this matter?

This adapter has 9 pin male end?

I am sure the skybox has 9 pin male end too? They won't fit will they?

The Null Modem cable has two pussies (female ends)

Before you buy the USB to serial adapter, do you (or any family/friends) have any old pc/laptops that already have the 9 pin serial port?

You will still need the null modem cable (not to be confused with a straight serial cable that looks the same).

Start with the box switched off from the power switch at the back.

                        Open the STB Loader
Select the correct file (3601_HD) for the F3
                        Select Correct Comm Port
                        Tick Include Bootloader
                        Hit Next
You should then see "Synchronising STBs... Please reset target!"
                        Power the box ON
                        You should then see "Done"

After about 10-15 seconds the progress bar should appear and the blue marker indicating progress.
This takes a few minutes to complete.
When it reaces 100% you will be prompted to hit Next to Burn the Flash
When completed you will be prompted to hit Finish and the box will Boot its self.

                        Job done.

Thanks guys, box back working. Had to get my friends old pc and connect null cable directly to box from PC. Worked a treat.
Clearly the usb serial converter didn't work.

Thanks everyone. Don't throw away your old pc n laptops, u never know when u may need them!
