On a personal note for around 9 years now i have always had A/V amps that have been equipped with HDMI even the cheapy ?99 offer ones these days have at least 2 HDMI inputs and one output, do people still use Optical and Coaxial for 5.1 audio i cant remember the last time i did anyway
The Skybox is fine as a source to output the audio..problem is that the audio transmitted to the box is generally crap and not full bandwidth like DVD or Bluray.
I have my F5 hooked in to a Yamaha 5.1 Amp with sub and all the trimmings...sounds as good as the proper Sky Box....TV speakers are crap
On the TV system menu do you have it set to match your TV...many can only work with BS ( Bitstream )

Thats not entirely correct and going slightly off topic but $ly transmit DD 5.1 audio @ 384kbps which is a DVD standard, I wont get into any more but DD5.1 on DVD has more than 4 different bitrates and on Blu Ray has more than 12.
Back on topic The F3 via HDMI will transmit the full 384kbps 5.1 audio exactly the same as the near ?500 Vu Duo2. What you feed that into is entirely a different subject
