    what causes stb errors?

    Hi all,
New here. I've been enjoying my Openbox S11 for about a year but yesterday, after performing a routine channel update, I managed to completely kill my box :-( So, today, I went to Maplin to buy a null modem lead and proceeded to attempt to re-flash the box, using the help / downloads I found on here. I kept getting stb memory errors as soon as I started the Erom update. After about 4 hours of trying, I had failed to get any progress, so I bought a new one on ebay. I continued to play about and all of a sudden, the process worked and restored my box!!

This is so annoying; I must have tried the re-flashing 50+ times, with no success. My question is; what causes the stb memory errors and God forbid, I crash the box again, what can I do to avoid these errors in future?

On one of the files I used, the download came with this readme file but it is not sufficiently detailed for me to know what to do with it!

1??Configure SDROM and Flash at first Before you use ERomUpgrade to Upgrade and dump target, Config methodes at next.
    config.bat [platform_type]
    platform_type = 8M_PF, 8M_SF
    Examples:
For 8M SDRAM, Serial Flash Platform: config.bat 8M_SF
FOR 8M SDRAM, Parallel Flash Platform: config.bat 8M_PF
    For 8M SDRAM, Serial Flash Platform S3202: config.bat 8M_SF_S3202
For 8M SDRAM, SQI Serial Flash Platform S3202: config.bat 8M_SF_S3202_SQI
For 8M SDRAM, SQI Serial Flash Platform S3327G4: config.bat 8M_SF_27G4_SQI
    For 32M SDRAM, Serial Flash Platform S3202: config.bat 32M_SF_S3202
    For 16M SDRAM, Serial Flash Platform M3329E: config.bat 16M_SF_M3329E
    For 128M DDRAM, Serial Flash Platform M3602: config.bat 128M_SF_M3602

Any help / suggestions / information from people more clever than me I am sure be gratefully received by me and others alike!

Thanks to you all and keep up the good work!

1.the loader/eromclient.abs has to match the receiver model you are trying to load.
for the s9/s10/s11/s12 the eromclient file is 56,412 size.
2.The receiver must be off when you hit next on the loader, you have many minutes to turn the receiver on.Take your time.
3.you have to tick include bootloader.
an old pc with a real serial port is preferred over a usb to serial adapter, and is often cheaper.
Ask friends, relatives, neighbors if they have an old one collecting dust.

Buy a decent box rather a skybox, then you won't have same problems. Pay peanuts and expect crap

          Hi all,
I was using an old Thinkpad T30. It's the same one I use to connect to my car through a serial port

I do not know why it suddenly worked. I kept trying different length of times between hitting the next key and powering up the box. I also tried different flash files. I want to experiment and have another go, although I thinkI will try and get another second-hand openbox to try and perfect the technique. Shame, as once it loaded, it was up and running in minutes!
          Thanks,
          Paul
