    Openbox with hotbird & Astra

    Hello

i had a communal aerial put in today and was told that I could now be able to pick up hotbird as well as Astra through the one cable.

ive tried to run a channel scan on the openbox with hotbird 6/8/9 (is this the correct satellite) but only seem to pick up sly channels. I would ideally like to have both sly and hotbird if possible.

Am I missing something? Should I add the satellite manually?

    thanks!

does the dish have 2 lnb's on it.. i wouldnt of thought you could of got anything if you hadn't set the box up to connect to the different ports for the different satellites.
If it isn't broke, don't try fixin it..!!!

You can only pickup what the dish is pointing at i.e 28.2E unless its motorrized or you have muilti lnb's
unless the dish has 2 lnb's or more...then you would have one cable for each lnb

arrrrr right, well not looking too far into it and at a guess, i think you would need to let the installer know if you wish to have freesat from sky 28.2 or one of many on 13e, in which case he would then set up the hub to connect the wire running to your flat to match your needs etc. otherwise the would need to set every flat up with its own diseqc switch to allow you to run both,
Another option wold be that those doing the initial install to the flats run 2 wires into your flat (one for each sat) and a double faceplate socket, one would be the feed for 28.2e and another for 13e, you would need to change the wire running from your box to the socket to suit your needs.. this sounds the most realistic choice; in which case you could buy your own diseqc switch to connect both of the outlets too and let the box do the swapping for you instead of having to change the wire over.
not 100% sure on this; it's just my though on how it would work.

If thats the case and both satellites are coming into your flat through one cable then they must be using a disqc switch.

press menu on the remote control
                click on satellite list
scroll down the list till you find Hotbird 6/8/9 listed, click on it so that a green tick appears beside it
now click the red button, scroll down the list to Diseqc1.0 scroll across and select port 2 now click exit
Scroll down to Astra 28a (Sky Uk 28A) in the menu it should already have a green tick next to it, if not press ok on it until green tick appears
now press the red button, scroll down the list to Diseqc1.0 scroll across and select port 1 now click exit.
Now go to the menu multi sat search, scroll down to search and press OK on the remote

You will find out in about 5 mins whether Hotbird is really coming through the cable as well, if not you will just have Astra 28a channels.

Thanks Guys, I had a play with it and managed to pick up the hotbird channels. Ive now realised there are no channels I can enjoy though so may have been a waste of time!! Thanks Again
