Your box is clone message, now wont turn on

Hi guys can someone help me out, ive had my openbox s11 for a year and a half and its just popped up with "your box is a clone version" and now it wont turn on? When i got the box i checked the chip id and it was listed as genuine, also ive had it since april 2012 so i went past 10 reboots ages ago?
    Thanks

Your only option now is to flash using the serial port method, with a clone-friendly image.

Do you put the box into standby every night? It does seem like a long time to go before the Clone message appeared.

    Was your chip ID 085B?

I switch the mains off every night and yeah the chip id was 085b. Ive just been on another forum where someone had the same problem and i was told that there is a bug in the firmware which caused original boxes to bricked with the clone message.

Can someone tell me which firmware i should use?

      Thanks

        That's interesting.

The reason I asked whether your box had a chip ID of 085B, is that I have a S10 box here with the same chip ID. I have been trying a few different firmwares on it & some say "clone" after approx 5 or so reboots & some are OK even after 10 reboots (& a couple say the chip ID is FFFF).

I assumed that the box was a clone, even though 085B is on the safe list, but could the firmwares that brick the box just have a bug in them? It still seems a long time for the bug to show itself in your case!

There are a few firmwares around by AnonymouSX which are clone-friendly. It might be worth flashing with one of those.

I wonder if slugworth has a view on this. He's the expert on the older boxes.

i've had the same problem in the past the chip id is genuine but the box show the 'error message', what i did to recover the box was you the 'erom upgrade' tool with the 'anonymous firmware' and the box was up and running the new!

s10's have the tuner in a socket and it's part of the detection routine. If you pop the tuner out the sys info screen shows all zeros for the addresses and other data, and if the tuner is removed or making a bad connection the receiver will kick into clone detect mode even if it is genuine.Avoid the temptation of using the aug 2012 anonymousx firmware,it kills genuine receivers.

instead of anonymousx firmware, just use old openbox firmware that was pre-clone detect.
I believe it started in july or august 2011

If the box turns out to be a clone will this kill the box?

You can always reflash the box using the serial port if you brick the box.
