Null modem or usb?

Hi everyone im trying to get rid off a rebooting problem I have with one off my f3 boxes...I've tried changing the firmware via usb with no joy. Is using a null modem cable different in any way or would I be just wasting money. My box is rebooting only when on certain channels, 1,2,3,4 are fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I had a box a few months ago with a corrupt start up background that wouldn'd correct itself when reflashing by USB.

When I reflashed the box with the same firmware by serial null modem cable (including bootloader), the background was OK again. So it may be worth a go. You have nothing to lose.
