How about getting your picon editor working as well.

Just a bit worried if it goes back to factory setting I'd lose free gift as I done this on a starview combo couple years ago and lost everything and now that's under my bed gathering dust . I have backed up the files it says to back up and saved on laptop then I put update files on stick then chickened out at the factory reset hurdle . So do I just carry on update to factory setting and the free gift will still be there when it's updated ?

How about getting your picon editor working as well.

Well just looked further into it and the pdf file (last page) indicates it needs a specific palette set to work. Palette set is basically the colours available to use and as you can see from the pdf it's limited.

It looks like you can't (that I know of, well not easily anyhow) just load an image and change the properties to what it wants because this image may have colours that it doesn't support (ie the palette).

I noticed that where I have the picon editor stored on my computer there is a folder called bmp and within it there is a sample bitmap (you manually edit yourself with the colours available) and a .pal (palette) file which is the specific list of colours supported.

You need to see if there is anyway to convert your own picons you have done (ie grabbed from net, etc) but apply the palette file to it which would then possibly change the colours in your picon to that of the palette.

IMHO, this is a lot of work for anyone.

I wouldn't have thought it's actually the editor at fault. I'm guessing it's maybe because the info banner (ie the box itself) has limited colours and therefore they have had to limit the palette in the editor to what the box itself can support.

Annoying yes but don't forget it's one of the cheapest and easiest to use boxes you can buy. I guess if we want a box that can do more then it means we have to pay a lot, lot more for a box and considering the rumours I personally don't think it's worth it

Do you have missing picons or just the +1, etc don't state +1. The manual says to export the xml file from your box and then import that into editor and use picon auto scan to retrieve the relevant picons. I'm guessing the +1 would still need to be manually edited so it has +1 on it.

I don't think my box turned off when I did a short test recording a couple of days ago.

I stand corrected - I just scheduled a test recording - my box auto changed channel at the selected time and when the recording finished a message displayed stating " Record Event Ended " and my box went into standby.

I doubt it as the boxes only have small amount of memory so to store whole EPG and/or PICON in it's memory (which would only be there until switched off anyhow) would mean it still requires usb to re-read the EPG/PICON data anyhow.

My guess is you are using the only usb as a wireless wifi?

No I'm using Ethernet because it's fixes my HD sports issues... If I update this box can i use the EPG button on the remote ?

I have missing Picons as well as channels with the the wrong picons on them an example would be BT SPORT 1HD, the picon for that is just the Standard Picon and even that is the wrong color compared to the onscreen logo for BT Sport 1HD. Like to know how to export the xml from the box unless you have to log into it through an ftp program. You can dump it to USB of course but I don't think it means that.

It does because there is now an option to dump by usb the xml file.

thanks for the files im all downloaded but there is something not quite right ?? epg working fine apart from all the sky movie channels any ideas what im doing wrong ?

Apart from manually editing each bmp that is meant to be HD and adding (as in drawing) HD on it, similar with +1 then there isn't much else you can do.

I don't have any missing channels in my list but I do have channels where the picon doesn't state +1 or HD (obviously) and personally I can live with it as it's an improvement although not perfect.

Maybe overtime the website where the editor gets the picons from will be improved/updated.
