Finally managed to sort it, it seems the skybox uses the tv for a earth, my new samsung led tv doesn't have a earth as it is double insulated so I took a separate earth from the plug socket to the outer casing of my skybox and it's back working, thanks to all who helped!
Glad to see its sorted.
Earthing used to be a big thing with electrical stuff.
