Vu solo box vs the skybox

Only had my skybox for a month and already got the bug for this whole sat reciever lark, got my birds head shot with it all haha

Anyway im looking to upgrade and have seen a lot of people bangin on about these vu boxes, are they the best?

Do they basically work in the same way as a skybox?

Also what are the main features that are better than skybox?

Finally, what is the best box to buy around the 300 smackers mark is it the vu line?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

vu solo2 at ?289 twin tuner plus you need an internal hdd for recording, one of the best original boxes going from wos.
they will kick the skybox well out of this world plus another usefull plugin is ts media loads of movies to stream to box like 1 channel, icefilms, simple movies a bonus if you like hd movies

There is no comparison, the Solo will always win.............BTW I dont dislike Skyboxes, as I think they are good value for the money
but the VU Solo is in a different league but it is more money........I guess it depends on how much you have to spend and what features
        you want from your box.

main function to run on sats, but tsmedia has iptv,radio/music,movies,net tv,net media, and user streams all in the tsmedia plugin.

how many skyboxes will you go through first??

True that, ive seen people complaining a lot about dead skybox.

My budget is around 300. but to be honest im not really that botherd about twin tuners etc, there only for recording and watching something else anyway arnt they?

Is vu+ the best there is then? or are there any better alternatives?

in reply to cactikid, so is the vu essentially a smart box aswell as a sat reciever?

Sorry I forgot to say that for ?300 the best box would be the Solo 2....brought mine for ?290 just over a week ago, its
                a great box

If you have the money buy a genuine box m8.

Not the same setup as the skybox in no shape or form......look at learning to FTP...

Skybox -v- Vu+ solo 2 = trying to paint your living room wall....(skybox) with a 2in brush that is as hard as a brick or (Vu+) a roller

I had a F3 for 12 months great box for the price & great picture on it....80% of people have problems with them because they mess with them & don't know what there doing
the other 20% the box is goosed......there ok for cheap tv....

Then you move on the the E2 boxes....harder to setup & a lot more ad dons but better support for them
as cactikid they are the box to go for.....but believe me weeks of reading will help......

once up & running they are fantastic ..........then your next step will be a motor setup its a must with these boxes....then the worlds you oyster....

I bought one last sept & never looked back.....never see the old messages Scrambled or No Signal since

I was just gonna ask about that, do you need a motorized dish to work a vu box? or will just the standard sky dish do?

what difference does a motor dish make haha?

tbh i think the skybox is excellent, ive never had a problem with no signal, just the odd scrambling problem, but i put that down to me using virtual wifi forwarded thru a repeater then etehernet to my box haha and its suprisingly not that bad

obvioiusly now ive got a taste i want something better.

and yes im going to read up in the vu forum before i buy one like, but i imagine it cant be much harder than a skybox setup, like flashing images, lists etc.

As P&D said these are not the same has a skybox, but the reward is tenfold when compared to a skybox. If you not worried about recording then you might be better suited with a Solo (less money at ?150 - 180) you can record but it would have to be on the same channel / transponder that you are watching from.

the trouble is i got a vu solo first and with so many things on wished i could record so i bought a vu duo [ twin tuner ] great for recording with 7 day epg and then got the odd problem with that box so i added a solo2 [twin tuner ] so if one box goes down backup ready, once you get a vu you will be hooked and added a nas drive [ router hdd ] for more recordings, think i have gone mad
