    Reception

Hi guys, I`m new here. I`ve looked around here in the forum and by google, but unfortunatley no real answers . I am living in Germany. by my last visit in england (last week) I bought myself a secondhand SKY+ HD Reciever. I`ve worked out that it is a DRX890. I tried it in England and it worked fine (without viewing card) So, I thought it would be ok here. I have a 120cm Satellite Dish which I use to recieve BBC & co. on my computer. I wanted to use this reciever on my TV though. I Connected it up, but unfortunatley, I only get the message on screen " Your Sky+HD box isn`t getting a satellite signal". So I disconnected the box and connected it to the cable I was using on my Computer. But still I get the same message. I`ve tried rebooting, and installing the software new. But STILL NO TV. Can / Would anyone here please give me a tip on what I could do, or Is there another software (opensource) etc. which I could use.

Waiting in HOPE, Thanks, your sterling.........

This forum is for a different company who call their boxes skybox rather than the official bskyb receivers. If you're only wanting the freesat channels then you get more channels through any freesat receiver than you do from the box you have.

About a fortnight ago most of the BBC channels moved to new transponders on a newly launched satellite followed a week later by ITV and Channel 4. Various reports on the internet state that as a result many European countries such as Southern Germany, Spain, Italy etc. have now lost these services. This has been done by design. The new satellite's footprint coverage is now tighter than the old one and is aimed mainly at the UK with less overlap and the new satellite is also reported to be currently broadcasting on reduced power whereas the footprint coverage of the retired satellite covered fringe areas such as mainland Europe. I would think that there is nothing wrong with your receiver as you stated that it worked fine when you tried it in England. Reports also state that a bigger dish would not make any difference to your satellite signal.

Cheers for the reply. But how come I can get all my channels over the satellite on my PC, using a external DVBS2 but not with this Receiver?

I may be wrong, but I suspect that your dish is pointing to Astra19.2 and not Astra 28.2 ( S*y ) and you're picking the channels up from that satellite. Of course, it's only a guess on my part.

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunatley not. I have a seperate dish for BBC & co. (28.2) and my other receiver picks it up fine. Do you know of it`s possible to put another software on these receiver`s ??? It`s a shame that I can`t use this box with all the extra`s on it. regards, sterling.

if your only using a single feed it may be wise to enable the 'Single Feed Mode' in the so called engineers mode on the receiver:

Press Services on the remote followed by 401 and select will take you into this menu goto the LNB setup part and choose Single feed mode and let the box reboot.

I am not saying it will work but its worth a try and the process can be reversed.

Just another thought you dont have any switches between your cable and the dish/LNB do you at all as the official receiver will only work on a straight through cable from the LNB

Ok try this as the default transponder for the UK is 11.778 for the EPG so go back into the Engineer menu and change the TXP setting from the one i mentioned to 12207 and save, again may work may not.

Hi, so I`ve entered around 20 different frequency codes for both 19.2 and 28.2. I`ve found on Frequency 11.837 H, 27.5, FEC 3/4 that the Signal Strength in Input 1 roughly 85% and Quality 90%. But still no Picture or Sound? What do you make of that?

This reception map might help with dish sizes etc for the EU.... updated by ex-pat UK folks https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ms...58,19.6875&z=4
Your signals seem fine... I guess the Sly box guru's will help you along with any missing settings

I am unsure why you would be entering frequency's for 19.2? east as the Official receiver although semi-linux is a closed source STB which means it cannot be altered in any form and will also not work with Diseqc switches or even Diseqc motors it requires your dish to be pointing at 28.2? east and have a direct feed from the dish LNB.

hi, don`t understand me wrong. I have 3 different dish`s 1 for German TV 1 for Italien (father in law) and also 1 for UK (mine). The larger of the 3 is my dish (120 cm) This dish is directly connected to my PC (PCTV DVB-S2 Stick (460e) and works fine.

This is some what perplexing as you have a Dish pointing towards 28.2? east with a direct feed from said dish with no switches going directly into the official receiver which in theory should work no problem, you know before you change the EPG transponder can you get a signal from that TP 11778 V
