How often do you need a channel update

Good morning gents, as i am a new member i am new to all this tec stuff , well to be honest i know nothing about the skybox , anyway the story is , i have a f5s box ,recently instaled with the sky (uk) channel list already installed all was fine but , as you have heard a million times before some of the channels have the dreaded no signal eg channel 5 hd , now i have had a look for a channel 5 hd that has a signal that works but the frequency is different , can i and how to change the frequency? on said no signal channel . (2) i have done a satellite search on e28.2e but it only finds a limited amount of channels , i imput the same detailes as the sky uk eg e28.2e freq universal etc , it has found a load of channels this it where the channel 5 hd is working with a diff freq .....hope this is making any logic.....
there is also many questions about the workings of the box ..eg cccam no idea what this is .....i know all the info is here but need pointing in the right direction as to what it is and what it does ......ps please keep the piss takeing to a limit ..im sensortive

hedhunter as a new owner of the f5s box up until a month ago i found the red highlighted topics very very useful and you will find out everything you need in them as i did.but will say the channel list and favourites is a personal choice as you will find out my limited advice would be to read as much as you can in the highlighted topics hope this helps in anyway.

had mine for 4 months and only done 1 blind scan and zero updates to channel lists,to be honest i only watch about 8 channels on the thing

Sounds to me like you need to update the channel list, the fix for that was released last year, so your box is way out of date

some say back up the old files, but i just deleted my channel list, installed the new one.Risk you take

Thanks chaps I'll try the update then ..ajs channel list .it seams o so simple for the tec minded . But for me ..wow all this zip and win32 stuff ..,think I'll need to learn what all this stuff is all about first

hed,have you looked further down the listings cos if it is repeated you can move it to where you want and delete the original

Zip files, rar files, whatever you want to call them is just a way of compressing files and/or keeping them in one place so it's easier to download.They just need unpacking.
If you havent got winrar or winzip installed, your PC wont know what they are. Once installed you need to teach your PC to recognise them by right clicking on the file, and selecting "open with", then select always open with this program. They should look like a bunch of books

cheers for that boys ....yes downloded winrar for zip files and it unziped them i followed the (where do you want to put the unpacked file prompt , and i put it straight on to a usb , i was a bit unsure of the newest channel list eg from AJ channal list , or which one to download to the win rar and put on to the skybox ......i choose the file by date 1.3.14 i think it was there was a long list in his post so i went for the one i thought was the correct one updated on 28/2/14 the first post ......with sd ? what is SD...anyway it seam to have worked after following all the instructions posted here on the site ....BIG thanks to you all for your help fellas ........anoher thing which was annoying after i put the new prog list onto the skybox was that channel 5 hd, fox hd and scifi hd was not working , i checked the frequency etc but it was all correct ??? i went into the menu and followed the instructions set out in one of the stickys on here (for noobs/newbys) about a search of the channel , but came back as invaled search , funny thing was i know the channel works as when i first done the new update of AJs list it was working untill i changed channel to say bbc 1 then back to chann 5 hd ...no channel ???? this morning it is working again ??? could this be a internet,router, problem ...as i with Talktalk , not the best i know , uplodad is rubbish ....if i change the router for another one say bt will it make a diff , anything i can do ,,,our thoughts ?

If its saying anything to do with signal, Invalid or No Signal its not you internet.

When it says Scrambled it could be either your internet or ************
