    SkyBox or?

    Hi,

I have just cancelled my Sky Package (TV, Broadband & Phone) during the cooling off period due to awful internet adsl connections and poor customer services. I checked out BT and have plumped for 76MB fiber BB and phone, so I have decided to go freeview/freesat to cut costs. If I purchased a Skybox F3/5/6, Would that allow me to connect only to the communal building aerial for freeview channels, or could I connect it to the sky sockets and get freesat channels?

    Many Thanks

      Thanks mate.

Yeah I was with Virgin till I moved house this month, sadly they don't supply my new address, hence the change .

Sky have been poor since I got them, so bailed before they tied me up long term. I'm hoping BT will be better than Sky, but yeah I'd far prefer VM again but its not an option.

Regarding the free-view, I have the communal socket which has 5 connection outwith the Phone Socket: TV; Return; Sat1; Sat2; & Audio. The Sky was in both Sat1&2. I thought those would give free-sat, and the normal TV socket would give free-view? I had a try and your right, the Sat1/2 give free-view just like the TV socket. Would I be wrong in thinking the TV socket is like a normal roof aerial, and the Sat1/2 would be a communal dish? If so, wouldn't the dish give free-sat rather than free-view? Sorry, I don't know much about this kinna thing, its confusing

The TV I have atm has free-view inbuilt, so I can get that no worries, but if I bought a free-sat box (like Skybox F5?), I could get free-sat from the Sat1/2 connections, or would I need something else.

      Regards

The TV is only free-view, I wont be able to test for free-sat until I get a receiver I think. I was just wondering if I could get freesat in general with a Skybox from the Sat1/2 connections before I went ahead and bought one. Incidentally, I did a scan anyway but rather than using the TV option of Aerial, I chose cable (thinking that would be the Sat1/2 cables) but found a total on 0 channels, radio etc Maybe the Sky Sat1/2 connection are aerial also, and the cable would be like the virgin type connections. All quite confusing

          Anyway, thanks for the chats.

Sorry I thought you had a receiver. Borrow someones receiver as not all buildings have communal sat feed. Ask a friend if you can borrow on to test otherwise you msay be wasting money.

if you still have your sky box you can get a card from sky to view the freesat channels, it will cost you a one of payment of ?25 pounds which will save you money on buying a skybox f5.

That's your box now, they don't usually take them back, unlike virgin where you rent box. Don't answer door

They do collect them when you cancel within the first 30 days of taking out a contract which is also your cooling period, The dish will be left more than likely but the Receiver will be collected.

You probably live in a strong signal area for terrestrial TV & what is probably happening is that the lead/LNB on the sat connection is acting as an aerial for your freeview TV.

You're right about the aerial & dish connections. TV socket will be a terrestrial aerial & sat1&2 will connect to a communal dish.

For the very few extra channels you get with a FTV card, it's really not worth it.

You will still get all the FTA channels on a Sky+ box without a card. The only extra channels you get with a FTV card is Motors TV, Liverpool FC TV, & Sony TV (&+1). I thinks that's all.

I used to get all freesat tv without a card on sky+ boxes, have 2 of them in house with no card and receiving free sat.
