Hi. Not familiar with the F5 boxes myself but from what you have described it appears that your receiver memory is up the spout. You may need to reload the original firmware(patch) back probably using the RS232 cables method. I am sure members familiar with this box will confirm this also or offer other advice.
    Regards.

It's normal to get ---- on the box front panel display when in the menu.

Is your HDMI lead connected straight to the TV, or is it going through a HDMI splitter or any other device first?

You say "suddenly" in your post. Does that mean that it used to work OK & now it doesn't?

Hi Hadron if you say its normal for that display then why cant he go into any menu functions or be able to do anything??? Thats why i thought it may be something wrong with the receiver. It may also be that the member is looking at the wrong TV output ie SCART instead of HDMI which may explain the black screen.

        Regards.

All I meant was that seeing ---- on the skybox display has no significance to his problem. That's what any box will show when the menu button is pressed on the remote.

You can't switch between HDMI & scart on skyboxes, they output on both at the same time, but it may be worth connecting the box via scart to see if he gets the same problem.

I vaguely remember someone else having this problem, & I think it was because they were connecting the HDMI through a splitter box...but I could be wrong.

Hi Hadron i think you are wrong as on the TM boxes when you press the menu button you dont get the ---- display . You only get this display when its booting up and if there is a problem with the box ie corrupt firmware then it will be a permanent display and firmware may need to be reloaded using the RS232 cable method. I have come across this problem a number of times on TM and other boxes and only way to resolve them was by reinstalling the patch back using RS232.

            Regards

When I said "any box", I meant any Openbox/Skybox, as it's the Openbox/Skybox section we are posting in.

The OP is saying it only goes black when he tries to go in to the menus, therefore first check your hdmi cable make sure it has not come loose at the point of connection, box end or tv end, if all is ok then maybe you will have to reflash the firmware using the recovery method with rs232 cable.
