    Quick hello to everyone

    Hi Guys,

Completely new to the forum and all this fandangled technology, hell i once watched a microwave for 20mins thinking it was a cooking programme! Bought a F5 box mid week as me and the wife had our first child last monday so were looking to cut costs wherever. Please excuse any questions i ask that appear simplistic, I'm here to learn and hopefully be able to impart knowledge to others in future. In the unlikely event anyone wants to know anything about boxing or the history thereof feel free to ask, in turn ill be rattling off questions hoping you guys can help me out.

my first, is can a F5s record, or is there an extra enabling it to do so?

thanks everyone, look forward to an education.... Ask a question you're a fool for a minute, don't ask you're a fool for life.

Yep. You can record to a USB memory stick (if it's fast enough), or to an external hard disk drive.

As soon as you plug it in the Multimedia options in the menu will become available.

You can record from the EPG, or set up manual timers, or press the record button to record the channel you are watching (the default time is 2 hours, but if you press the record button twice, you can set it to whatever time duration you want).. Only having 1 tuner, you can only record the channel that you are currently watching though.

The timers are a bit buggy. They don't seem to always record 100% of the time, & the box goes into standby after a timer record.

I use a 250GB 2.5" drive from an old laptop, inside a cheap USB caddy I bought on ebay. It gets it's power from the F5s, but some members say that it's best to use a powered external drive.

Thanks for the info. Will get something from ebay and spend a day or two with "technological-tourettes" trying to get it to work. I'll then spend the subsequent 6months trying to explain it to the wife, god love her.
