    Possible Clone F5s solution

    Hi
I have been trying to update my firmware for about a month and keep getting the file mismatch error, my box has all the indications of being a clone , no gold sticker on remote no skybox logo in the battery flap etc. so getting fed up at this point. But I tried something slightly different
format a small USB mine was 64mb as FAT
copy the updated firmware file to it
    update by USB

and it worked no error, fantastic.

maybe my box is not a clone, maybe it is , but hopefully my experience might help others

A box accepting original skybox firmware (skybox.cc) does not necessarily mean it is not a clone. Some clones are almost impossible to tell - if it works, who cares

How were you updating box before you used upgrade by usb? RS232 port?

May have been memory stick issue then because I use a 32gb FAT32 formatted (32k cluster sizes) and don't have a problem upgrading via usb.

I assume your machine is not a clone, so if mine is a clone then it might be that the small USB or the format of FAT rather than FAT32 , enabled my update to work. Only way we will know is if someone with a clone tries my method to see if it works

I think mine is original but it's hard to know for sure but I don't have a problem updating at all.

Maybe the clones don't like certain usb sticks or how they're formatted.

Like you said we need someone with a known clone to tell us whether their box upgrades or not

I definitely have a clone and I get the firmware mismatch error except when I use the download from www.hddvbsw.com. I will give it ago on a smaller memory stick and format it too fat but I haven't got one to hand, it will take a couple of days.

I personally don't think it will work for mine because in addition to trying to upgrade it via a memory stick I have also used the lan upgrade tool (which means you don't even have to use a memory stick of any sort) and still got a file mismatch.

Can you remember the name of the original firmware your box had on it or if the loading screen had www .skybox.cc on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. If it did then you probably have an original box and the two other memory sticks you tried weren't compatible for whatever reason.

dump the firmware on the box now and compare with a hex editor

Just tried this on my F3 clone. I used an old 32MB stick formatted with FAT & 512 byte allocation unit size.

I still get File Mismatch when using the latest firmware from skybox.cc.

In answer to which firmware version that was on my machine don't really remember but think it had 23_12_2013 in there somewhere,
