    F5s ping question

    Hi all

    Ive been having this problem for a little while and i have decided to get to the bottom of whats going on!

    ive got aj latest update along with the new firmware for the f5 box .

    all channels work as they should

    but im getting alot of scrambling glitching etc

    i know that this could be down to alot of other issues but having narrowed it down to either my internet connection or a router issue or even an issue with the input to my f5 box then im looking for a little help

    my setup is as follows

    zyxel amg1302-t10b router
    hardwired connection from this router to f5 box(new cables etc )

    in my network options on the f5 DHCP is on and the ip is showing 192.168.001.036

    i used my laptop to ping this ip address?(laptop on same network as the sky f5)

    if i ping 192.168.001.036 i get a different response to pinging 192.168.1.36 (without the zeros added)
    question is which one do i ping???
    the only one i can get anything off is the 192.168.1.36

    i have pinged this 3 times and got the following

    ping 192.168.1.36

    The ping test your doing is only testing your home network not the internet ie laptop - router - f5s
    you need to ping an external address to find out your ping speed, use Google and even better your providers address.

    Here's my ping results for you to compare;

    C:\Windows\system32>ping ##.##.##

    Pinging ##.##.## [provider] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from provider: bytes=32 time=48ms TTL=56
    Reply from provider: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=56
    Reply from provider: bytes=32 time=49ms TTL=56
    Reply from provider: bytes=32 time=49ms TTL=56

    Ping statistics for provider:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 48ms, Maximum = 50ms, Average = 49ms

    C:\Windows\system32>ping Google

    Pinging Google [62.24.154.222] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 62.24.154.222: bytes=32 time=34ms TTL=61
    Reply from 62.24.154.222: bytes=32 time=88ms TTL=61
    Reply from 62.24.154.222: bytes=32 time=31ms TTL=61
    Reply from 62.24.154.222: bytes=32 time=56ms TTL=61

    Ping statistics for 62.24.154.222:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 31ms, Maximum = 88ms, Average = 52ms

    As you can see my returns are quicker from my provider than from google

        You've got 3 different results, can you turn off your f5s and anything else that uses the internet and ping Google (need www. address as forum shortens it) and post results.

            You ping results seem ok both Google and provider, however, my only concern is 2 of your providers results are poor (Max 157 & 246). This won't cause glitches at present but if your provider is heavily loaded and at peaks ie footy match on, this could overload and cause glitches
