Skybox F5s only works with sky+

Hi there got a skybox f5s the other day and finally got it set up this morning. However I have now realised I only get the sky channels when the sky+ is also on and both are connected to the satellite. However when they are both connected I also get channels such as boxnation and racinguk which aren't part of my current sky+ subscription. I have a gift running for the skybox and was hoping for a solution as I'm planning on getting rid of sky+ because of the costs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What if any message do you get on the screen from the Skybox if you switch the Sky+ box off.

If it's "No Signal" search Fleabay for "No Signal Fix"

If not you may need to give more info how you have the boxes connected.

Separate feeds from LNB etc etc.

sounds like you need to read up on setting up your openbox and which cables to run to which box and using the loop .......as well as what a gift does and doesnt do.......and this is the place to be.... look through the red highlighted forums read carefully and take heed to the rules.....then ask 1 problem at a time and u shall be helped acordingly

Thanks for the replies. What I want to know is whether I can cancel my sky+ subscription and have my f5s still work even if I have to have my sky+ box on to do so. And yes I do get the no signal issue what is it that causes that?

Sounds like the no signal fix as suggested try disconnecting the $ly box see how you go
If the F box works then
          this will be the problem
Also a read of the Rules may help....regarding certain Words or phase's you cannot use in your post...i.e....G**t (& $ly talk)

          Regards P&D

No you can get rid of $ly & still run the F Box without any problems just disconnect the $ly box from the dish

The problem I have is when I disconnect my sly+ I have the no signal problem so if I buy the fleabay solution I'll be able to run my f5s fine without sly. Apologies for the earlier mistakes as well.

Disconnect both cables from the back of the box

connect the F box to the dish in place of the original $ly box (One cable only)
              NOT IN THE LOOP CONNECTOR

See what the F box says on the channels ??

Morning just tried what you said the $ly+ is off and has no lnb cables connected and I rebooted the f box and I have the invalid program search again on the subscription channels. Any suggestions? Also I have taken my card out of the $ly so that isn't working but the f box still does and like I said works with channels I dont have with $ly.

Also there is nothing in the f box loop connector and my g**t is online and ticked. I'm really confused by this its as if the satellite only works when it's connected to $ly.

The "no signal fix" won't work with your problem as that is for when you lose vertical channels when the Sky+ box is connected, not disconnected.

It's a strange problem. Do you only lose $ channels when the box is connected on it's own & is it all $ channels, or just some? Do you still receive FTA channels?

Does the LNB cable go straight to the LNB & not through any splitters?

In menu > installation > LNB power, is the LNB power set to ON?

Yh it's all the $ channels but I still get the FTA channels. I'm at work at the minute so can't check the others but will do later.

So it sounds more like an internet connection problem, than a signal problem, but why does it only work when your Sky+ box is turned on???

                          Very strange!

Does your ethernet cable go straight from the F5s to your router?

Also, just to clarify, do you get a "no signal" message or "scrambled" message?

The Ethernet cable ran straight into the f box. However the $ly is connected by wifi. And it's definitely a no signal and not a scrambled message. Lnb power is set to on as well.

                              hi
I got a new skyf5s box this morning. There was nothing in it. I set it up like this

                              1. HDMI cable in.
                              2. Ethernet cable in straight to the router.
                              3. Cable to Sky Dish in LNB port.
                              4. Power supply in.
                              5. I turned on the box.
                              6. I set up my Network settings such as host, port, user and password.
                              7. Used USB to install Channel list
                              8. rebooted
                              9. Everything worked.

As you say you are running a gift you should be able to remove the Sly box and just use the F5s box.

Also as you may have a issue conntecting to the internet try using a different ethernet cable
