    Bought Skybox f5s, need help with set up- Please help

    Recently bought a skybox f5s and trying to set it up in order to avail of FTA channels (before maybe getting gift).

    I was informed this box was good to go, just a matter of plugging it in and off I go.

    I am replacing my skybox f3 which used to work without the connection to the dish, just ran off my wifi and I did my channel updates via AJ's list etc....

    Everywhere I look i'm being told to connect the satellite cable to my new F5s but i've never had to do this with my F3. I know this because I only have the one satellite cable and frequently swtiched between my current sky package (sky box) and my old f3.

    When I've hooked up my new F5s (plugged into mains, HDMI to TV and ethernet cable to box) i'm still only getting "no signal". I'm convinced this is all i've previously done with my old Skybox f3.

    I've also loaded AJ's latest channel list to the new box however i'm not even getting the free to air channels. Obviously thats all I would get as ive not got a gift but why am I still seeing no signal?

    I've tried the various set up guides on here (even the ones for dummies) but i'm struggling with some of the terminology and also i'm quite reluctant to play around with it too much given how tempermental they are.

    can anyone advise as to why i'm still getting no signal?

    thanks

    Just remember gift talk is against forum rules

    Both the F3/F5S require a connection to a Sat feed to receive sat broadcasts.

    Why not try and connect your one satellite cable to your new f5s aswell as the mains, HDMI to TV and ethernet cable, install a channel list or do a blid scan and see what happens.

              On your remote;
              Menu - installation - single satellite search - then down to search

              Ensure 'satellite = sky UK 28a' if after that satellite

                I previously had a skybox f3 and I am certain that I never had to connect to the dish, is it possible to receive channels via ethernet cable?

                  As mentioned above, the skybox is a satellite receiver. You must have a connection from the dish plugged into the LNB socket on the Skybox for it to work. There is no other way it can work.

                  There are a couple of Apps (you p0rn & you tube) that work by streaming from the internet when they feel like it, but that's all.
