open box s6000hd all help needed.

I have an open box s6000hd that i got as a present all set up from a friend that past away recently.... all i know is my line is still active but nothing working only free view. i think its a software problem. i had all channels on it before but now none. reading all different post, i have never flashed a box or placed an image or even know what this is..
