The remote on a genuine will be marked skybox - f in the battery slot, to my knowledge they are not marked on a clone

Although that scenario is true for original remotes on the earlier F3 and F5 boxes, I don't think it applies to the remotes on the later F3S and F5S boxes. My F5S is genuine but the newer version remote does not have Skybox written anywhere on it.

I also read somewhere that a fake F5S may have the words HDMI on the hdmi port whereas a genuine one will have HDTV written on it. As martin035 pointed out, the official site recommends that providing you still have the original box to scan the QR code and see if it takes you to the official site. I believe that's the best way to know for sure.

I half agree, yes the words hd tv are used on the hdmi slot of a genuine box, but for example my new openbox v5s is 5 weeks old, there is no embossed sticker or qr code anywhere on packaging or box, yes there is a serial and the remote is marked skybox -f

So I think martin035's post is only for libertview marked boxes. Not openbox marked

You are correct, just checked my genuine openbox f5s box and there's no qr code, so it looks like my advice is just for a libertview.

Thanks guys, I have a rebadged Openbox V5S AKA Skybox F5S that was; my HDMI Port reads HDTV, so based on the above info I would assume my open is the real ma-coy. I was told if I flash it and it stops at 97% then its a clone Mmmm? Gee let me think.....Nah!! I won't try that thanks.
              Thanks again Guys
