    Open box V5S Firmware Update?

I understand this has probably been asked, millions of times but where can I find the latest firmware for an Open Box V5S?

The reason I ask is a friend has just got one but encountering the infamous fav list video freeze. Where if you go through the fav list and change category, the image feed will freeze or return invalid channel.

He only just got it today and I knew for a fact he'd need to update it. His firmware is dated 10/04/2014 and I know my Sky box F5S has a firmware dated somewhere around August 2014.

    Thanks.

Your friend's firmware is the latest official version i.e. 10/04/2014. The issue that you are describing is a known bug of that particular firmware which I have reported in a previous post. You must be mistaken regarding the year of your firmware as there has been no official release in August 2014 whereas there was one released in August 2013.

I can't be mistaken as the website states it is a 2014 release. As I said, I have a skybox F5S which has a latest firmware of August 14.

Sorry but you're incorrect. I've already posted in a different thread that the date of the firmware on the website is the date that the firmware was put back onto the website after it had inadvertently been removed. When you extract/download the file it will have the date 10-04-14 in reverse in its description i.e. SKYBOX_F3S_F5S_3601HD_CMT_14041006DA.abs.

If you want to check this then navigate to and enter the "Information" heading using the menus of your box and you will see the firmware version date listed in the bottom entry.

Ok this is something I didn't know so I do apologise.

My current firmware then. dated the same as his, doesn't have this issue. Is there a workaround?

Just to add, that the firmware example in my previous post refers to a Skybox and after searching for the Openbox version and downloading it - the only difference is in the file name which has the numbers 08 22 in the description which may be the date the software was modified from a Skybox version to a Openbox version. Nevertheless, the software would be exactly the same as the 10-04-14 Skybox version but with a different start up logo. Check the information setting on your Openbox to be certain.

I'm surprised that your firmware doesn't have this issue and there's no workaround at the moment. Hopefully, it will be fixed in a future release depending if the manufacturers are aware of it. A lot of users seem to be unaware of it. If you want to verify that it doesn't affect you then do the following. While watching a subscription channel, press the OK button on your remote, highlight but do not select a different " Fav" category to the channel you are watching e.g if watching a film then highlight "sports", wait a few seconds and the channel should freeze while the menu is on screen.

Looks like there's a new August 2014 firmware just been released and in the correct section for v5s. Yojiatech defo has new firmware, I'm going to try this on one of the boxes that Whale Train has had to see if the box performs properly.
                will update when complete

The saying: " You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink it " springs to mind. Ah well.......

Quick question for Bigade1, do openbox ever release new firmware or is it just when you say it's new? Are you the openbox rep for the UK? you seem to know everything about these boxes. Horse to water and all that!! No wonder folk get pissed off with smart arses on forums. Not being argumentative!!

                      .

Yeah I've found it does do it now. One thing that I've found though with my box is a firmware update doesn't wipe my subscription but wipes pretty much everything else. I also have to agree with gary, no need to be like that with everyone.

Was I correct though? And had I previously stated this information earlier in the thread? I rest my case.

You ain't answered my question? Are you an employee of yojiatech? As you seem to be the only person who knows when a firmware release is actually genuine. If you take anything from these posts, it is your attitude or the way you express yourself with other members which to be honest is annoying to say the least, just glad that another member is in agreement with me.

If you think bigade1's attitude is questionable or find his posts annoying, then use the 'add to ignore list' or report his posts and let a Mod decide, instead of trying to cause a flame war with cheap/defamatory posts.

Martin035, the very fact that another member agrees with me says it all. The fact you have posted what you have with a big thank you post from Bigade1 absolutely proves my point. I will take you up on your advice re:add to ignore list.
                              Thanks
