not sure if this will help, but have you tried pressing the vformat button?

As goldberg says, it looks like someone has pressed the V format button on the remote. If you have trouble getting you picture back by pressing the v format button again (I think there are around 12 video resolutions), then you can try connecting by scart or composite leads. You can then go to menu > TV system & change video resolution to 1080i_50 (or whatever your TV likes).

Thanks guys it was the Vformat button I had to press it quite a few times before it displayed. Note to self dont leave the controls lying around for your wee boy to mess about with.

There are 5 main choices with the V FORMAT button
480P/576I (interlaced). (This is good for scart connection).
720P is for older style Plasma and the odd late CRT (Cathode ray tube), usually with a D sub connection or component connections.
Pal amnd RGB are for the UK tv,s 50Khz.
1080I and 1080P (Progressive) are for HDMI connections ( gold plated connections are a wast of money as you are sending a digital signal and there is Forward error correction for any bits it has misseds and will buffer the signal.
            Hope this helps.

Warning you can block the picture form a HDMI or SCART tv so be careful what you change.
The V Format button will get you out most of the time, but not always.
