    Strange problem with Skybox F5

Hi Hope someone can offer advice please.

Lately my Skybox F5 has been crashing and freezing I thought it may be a firmware fault but have upgraded the firmware with no improvement. I have tried a variety of things finally I booted the box up with no aerial attached and it stayed on and changed channels (obviously no picture) but it did not crash and freeze, as soon as I attached the aerial it crashed.

I connected the aerial from my Sky box with the same result the box crashes and the picture freezes.

Hopefully someone can offer advice as to how this may be cured any help will be gratly appreciated.

    regards

exactly the same problem. Freezes on fta channels as well and you have to unplug to reboot it. Channel 4HD seems to be on for about 5 seconds and then does it, while was just watching BBC One HD and it was on for about 15 minutes before freezing.

Sounds like the "LAN tool" problem.

Have a look at this thread (read from post #65 for a solution):-

Compliments of the season to one and all.

Hope someone can guide me please.
My Skybox F5 decided to freeze after 10 secs or so and reading various forums it was suggested that using a LAN tool the files should be deleted empty ones installed with new firm ware and channels.

I am attempting to connect my skybox to my PC using a 'A' to 'A' USB cable but it reports unable to connect to box. It automatically picks up the IP for the box and I have tried passwords 0000 and 3327 to no avail. The USB cable appears to be OK as the box powers up on the cable without the power lead when connected direct to the PC.

Can anyone explain in simple steps what I am doing wrong so that I can connect the box to the LAN tool and my PC and try to rescue my Skybox from freezing out and being useless.

        Any help greatly appreciated.

        cheers

The LAN tool connects over the network (ethernet) cable, not through USB.

It doesn't automatically pick up the IP address of the box. You need to go to get the IP address of the box through the network settings menu.

The password is the same as the parental password (0000 if it has never been changed).
