Splitting sky cable between 2 boxes Q

I was thinking of getting a box but only have the std 2 cable input for my hdbox which I'd want to keep connected and use the openbox occasionally.

Can I continue to run one of the cables to the Hd box but split the other so its shared between 2 boxes. I suspect the hd box would only be able to record one program when the openbox is running but otherwise does this cause any issue?

I would run another cable from the dish but I had all my cables run internally so no cables are on the outside walls and it would be a pain to get another run.

you cant split sat feeds, hate to say you need extra cable feeds, not sure if hd box can record on 1 feed?

one of the reasons to think ahead with installs does one have enough of all cables for upgrades or audio etc??

I've read on another thread/website that they managed it but it only worked when you switched the boxes on in a certain order. Can anyone confirm?

Any satellite box needs to send control signals to the LNB to tell it to switch to hi/lo band and H/V polarity. If you split the feed between 2 boxes, the chances are that these control signals would conflict with eachother & you won't get a signal. Even when a $ly+ box is in normal standby, it still sends the signals to the LNB.

I can't see how switching the boxes on in a certain order would change this.

It might be worth trying an A_B switch to swap the signals from one box to the other. You might get a "no signal" error message if you have it switched to the openbox while trying to record on the $ly+ box though.

Although the LNB upper frequency is just outside the spec for these boxes, they still seem to work.
