recording on openboxvs8

hi, quick questions if anyone can help please. When recording on a vs8 you get the little REC logo in the top right hand side of the screen. Is there a way to hide this so I can watch the programme without the distracting little logo at the top?

also the default record function is 2 hours, is there a way to extend this to keep running or do I have to input a manual recording?

There's no way to get rid of the "REC" logo.

As for changing the recording time, just press the "record" button on the remote again while the recording banner is at the bottom of the screen & you can change the duration.

thanks, pain in the arse about the icon. Do you know if the record file format can be changed to something like mpeg allowing you to plug the usb into other devices/pc to watch recorded files?

If the recording is over 1GB in size, then it will be recorded in chunks. Some players for the pc might automatically play the .ts files in sequence, but some don't. If the player doesn't then the files will need to be joined together.

There's a simple way to join them back together again using DOS commands:-

Open notepad and either copy/paste or type the following:
copy /b *.ts merged.ts
Then "Save As" merge_ts.bat [Save as type... All Files (*.*) ]
Then copy the new file "merge_ts.bat" into the folder where your .ts files exist and simply double click the merge_ts.bat icon.
It combines all the 1GB .ts files within the folder.

When you run the merged_ts.bat file within the folder of the programme containing the .ts files, it will open a DOS window. It will show you down the left hand side which file it is currently working on (000.ts, 001.ts etc.). After it has merged the last file, the DOS window will close & the "merged.ts" file will be ready to view.

VLC media player will play .ts format on your pc.

If you need to change the format to play on another device, then I use a program called Freemake Video Converter. Be careful when you install this though, as like a lot of free programs, it tries to get you to install other programs at the same time. You need to install it using the "custom" installation.

Long shot but ...... is it anyway possible to record then watch another station on the (open) box ?

No mate you need a box with a twin tuner plenty to choose from and not to expensive either ..

I'm afraid not. If you try to change channel while recording, you will get a message warning you that recording your current channel will stop.

Still not got my box but according to Hermes its in the post. What i am looking to find out is when recording i can watch another channel cant i and ill presume you cant set a record timer or am i wrong?

With a angle tuner box ie an openbox you can only watch/record/stream one channel at a time. With a dual tuner box ie a zgemma 2s you can record one, watch or stream another different channel.

I've been told (but cannot verify this myself), that some single tuner sat receivers will let you watch another channel while recording another providing that both channels are on the same transponder. I tried this on my Openbox, but still got the message telling me that recording will stop if I changed channel.

Think that's how an original sky Q box works ie record/watch 4+ channels per single feed in, so therefore, you need an internal tuner and software to support this, which most open distros don't, I could be wrong on this, as I'm not to sure if the top end e2 boxes support this feature?

Cheers guys. Twin tuner, so obvious had i given it more thought. I sopose it depends on what i want to watch when recording as i have a standalone freeview box that records also but that does not have a timer either.

Just tried this on the satellite side of my H.2H. I'm recording the Euroformula race on BT Sport 3. Looking through the Sport Favourites, every channel is greyed out except BT Sport 1, which I can view while still recording BT Sport 3. They are both on transponder 11344.50 V.
