skybox f5s dim 8 problem

hi my skybox wont turn on just shows a very dim 8 and a dim red led on display ive tried to reflash using loads on combinations of fimware etc. but cant get past the "please reset target" stage only way it says "done" is after i unplug it again. ive tried differant timings with the power lead after pressing next. unsure if mine is a clone but tried clone firware & non clone firmware but no luck. i have in the past flashed a couple off boxes before ok.
any ideas anyone or is it a chuck it in the bin job ?

Just keep going mate try it with another P.C it will deffo go in the end ,had a couple like this...........Paul

Im using same desktop pc ive used before to flash them. Quite a while ago im sure there used to be a differant type of flash tool. They all seem to be the same one ive downloaded now EromUpgrade is there a differant type

I have flashed many openboxes/skyboxes over the years, but I've never managed to flash any that had the dim 8 & red light.

there was supposedly a dim 8 fix for the f3 that was the f3 firmware plus the proper rs232 loader.
The same loader is used for the f5s but I would think it would be a hardware problem vs. firmware if nobody can fix it via rs232.
BTW the f5s has an 8meg flash but only 1/2 is being used for firmware updates.

it must be a hardware problem then,like bad power supply or ram.
That is where I got my dim 8 fix,but as mentioned previously it's for the f3 and not the f5s.

Will have a look at power supply still gives a decent spark when you plug it in but not tested it with multimeter. Next job is to try and get the lid off see if theres anything inside blown

hi, i have the same problem. my skybox F5S has a dim red light and a dim 8. I downloaded the RS232 Upgrade Tools from http://www.skybox.cc/downinfo.asp?id=112 and the actual firmware from http://www.skybox.cc/down.asp?id=16 . I try to reflash with RS232 modem cable and serial cable to USB. But it doesn't work (error message: "Set stb memory error"). Any idea???
