Openbox V5S - dark picture issue with a Scart connection

Ok, here's a problem I've had lately in one of my bedroom set-ups.

I have an Openbox V5S and a Panasonic DMR-EX77 DVD/HDD Recorder. I have them connected to a little
Scart switcher box thingy which then feeds a TV, and also have the two boxes connected together to allow
me to record from the Openbox should I desire.

However, when I plug the Scart lead from the Panasonic into the Openbox Scart output, the picture that comes
from the Openbox to the TV darkens slightly. It doesn't darken when I switch to the Panasonic with the AV1
input selected. In other words, the Openbox picture display is fine when viewed through the Panasonic box but
is darker when viewed directly from the Openbox.

The picture brightens back up to normal levels when I unplug the Scart lead that connects the two boxes
    together
, regardless which end I unplug. It also makes no differenceif the Panasonic box is on, at standby or
completely powered off. It's maybe a bit hard to follow so I've included the pictorial below.

I previously had the "snowy" picture problem on the TV (it's an old TV, not HD or anything) which I solved by
cutting the pin 19 cable in the Scart lead that plugs into the TV. Et voila, perfect picture. I'm wondering if this
latest issue is also some sort of interference in the Scart leads, or is it just an issue with an Openbox?

Not sure why you have the Scart Splitter when you should just feed the openbox into AV2 (in) on the panasonic and then AV1 (out) of the panasonic straight into the TV.

The picture darkens becuase your trying to feed a pure RGB signal into an input which only accepts CVBS standard

Because I dont want to have the Panansonic on just to watch the Openbox. I had it like that before last week.
The Panasonic gets hot and produces a hum at times which interferes with a nearby turntable.
