    Skybox a3 usb

    Hello all

ive just tried to update the channel list on a skybox a3 using the usb slot on the back. The front slot had wifi stick in. As soon as I pressed the usb stick into the box it killed the power to the box. I've heard of problems with the slots on these boxes before. What can I now do to bring it back to life? I've read of similar problems on here with other skybox models but was not sure if the solutions are applicable to the a3

    thanks

A3's are old and if you have totally goosed the box, it would be more cost effective to just go out and buy a new openbox v8s (?35 on the bay) or if your brave enough then an upgrade to a zgemma 2s box (?68 on the bay)

Thanks Martin, sounds about right. Is updating the image and channel list process the same as with the skyboxes? I take it the more modern boxes are easier to use and less goes wrong? Also am I right in thinking you can pause record etc on the zgemma with no need for external hard drive?

The newer openboxes are basic and very similar to the older series to use and they update the same way as the older ones via USB, plus have better EPG and webtv. However, they still have the same tendencies to go wrong/brick due to them being cheap Chinese tat.

As to the zgemma box, yes it can do this and more, has auto boutiques (no channel updates), even better EPG and a better user interface (very similar to a $ky HD box). However, it's a wee bit harder to setup then an openbox, it's the box I would get if my v5s ever dies.

Whoops, my bad, just reread your post, you do need an external USB device to record.
