openbox s9 stuck on

turned my openbox s9 today and it all its says on display is on turned off and back on still stuck on that
i havent done anything to it just watched it as normal
can anyone help me
ive only got a usb to serial cable as dont own a serial pc

As mentioned, not all USB to serial adapters work. One that is known to work, is this one from Ebay that uses the Prolific PL2303HDX rev D chipset:-

You will need to use it with a null modem cable:-

There's no need for a separate null modem cable if you use this one.

i have a null cable but my laptop doesnt take the cable without the usb so i guess i take box into work and try with works pc

Tried the null cable in work and getting errors ' initialize stb sdram is failed ' and ' set stb memory error '
What can I do now

Make sure the COM port is correct....don't know what OS you are using.......control panel/system/device manager/LPT/com
make sure this com port is the same as the one in the software your using to flash the box

Doesn't the S9 have a different loader to the later boxes. I have the attached one on my HDD. Also have the other attachment which may be the bin file for the S9 as well.

s9 firmware compressed is <2meg size
so just looking at the size of the .rar it can't be for the s9
I always use old pc's with a real com port.
As a matter of fact I just threw 2 or 3 old pc's out.
No room at the inn.

You should have it some where, you uploaded it in 2011. Had your two pennath worth out of that box ehh.

When you have plugged you USB to serial adapter in go to Device Manager (you will find it in Control Panel). Look for Ports and you should see your adapter and the port number. If its not there, then its probably missing the drivers.

the cable is installed correct as shows in device manager but getting errors on all programs i use for fixing this box

seeing as your local if you want i can have a go at loading the software on the box for you.....if you want to nip down & drop it off
using the loader & firmware DW190 has uploaded

I will never throw my old comp away because it has a comport .....i always thought it would be handy

done loads of the F/boxes without a prob....

and most of the loaders/editors were written back in the win xp days to be used with win xp on a pc with a real com port.
I also always have 2 or 3 old pc's kicking around to use.
They are often cheaper than buying an adapter if you get them from friends or family members glad to get rid of them.
