long time skybox f3 user feeling lost

Guys its been so long since I bought my skybox f3 on fleabay many moons ago, and its been working like a little trooper, Ive been using AJ,s updates to keep it ticking over nicely.

But I've just had a wee browse of the posts in the forum today and I see a lot of new boxes on the market, which has got me feeling a bit left behind in the dark ages ....so whats hot and and whats not these days if I was looking to upgrade?

Zgemma ok for sky, cable not so good depending on where your area is as most images are set up for VM 6952 which is ex Telewest, therefore ex ntl all has to be done manually, so a lot more work to be done before your actually set up. Also if your running on mgcam which most magic are, you may need to download 1.35 from plugins as this can be a hit or miss dependent on your magic.
openbox v8s boxes are cheep and cheerful, done many of them and as long as your happy to do a little upgrade via usb when BT sports changes frequency it's still by far best value for money.
Zgemma will only give you the same channels!
      IMHO

That's off course unless you are going the cable route where you will get all your HD back like me!

          Hmmm!!!!!

you only need to change 1 setting in the menu on any image in the Zgemma to change from 6952 scanning to 6887 in fact i think its only a few side swipes right on the remote control in the Tuner Config menu and its easily found the same as the 6952 setting.

Autobouquets does not need any Frequency setting it just needs a NetID input and away you go, Have set a few of these up for friends in different areas some 6952 other 6887 and all work no problem

Both images used for Zgemma have 6952 set as default ex Telewest for Glasgow. There is no drop down or option for 6887 ex ntl Glasgow. You have to ask the box to scan additional symbol rates I'm afraid, been setting it over the last 2 days.

Which Image is that Digicon and does it work on the ZGemma H2 combo?
Ive tried the vix/hades and openatv and both of them don't have this option, Brute force only for 6952
Ive managed to get this box up and running but I'm struggling to get the likes of gold, racing UK, a load of discovery etc which are all in sd.
could try reflashing with your image via usb to see if this changes things. Does it also have mgcam 1.38 installed on the image as my magic doesn't seem to like 1.35
                thanks for the help mate

Thats the OpenATV image, have you tried Updating the image and then downloading the latest software updates for it to update the ABM which should allow that option.

I know you cannot update the patched Vix image software wise, But is there not another patched up to date image you could try

I think I'm on the latest image all be it from another forum I'm afraid. Now I tried flashing my Zgemma H2 combo with that image and it was still showing provider 6952.
Ill have a look around and see, thanks for all your help. As it stands I've got most channels back out with, gold, racing UK, music channels, discovery etc all sd which show tune failed. I have all the channels in my abm but I'm getting tune failed.
the surprising thing is I'm getting all my HD channels with 29% Snr glitch free, baffled me a bit that has!

Bit more money but the Sunray 60H E2 box with built in WIFI are worth looking at as well, plus you can run
patched Blackhole images on these as well.

I tried one of these boxes on wifi without the extra Arial plugged in and no freezing (not very scientific as it depends how
powerful the router is, which was in another room about 25 feet away)
