Libertview Openbox M5 HD 1080P Freesat PVR TV Satellite

    Hi,
I have just purchased one of these boxes by accident, actually it is what I wanted but the seller had listed it's spec wrong as I was lead to believe it had an Ethernet interface which it clearly hasn't.

My question is, how do i set it up via wifi, it says wifi inside on the box but can't find anywhere in the menu that lists this.

A guy from another site said I will need to purchase a wifi dongle or skybox aerial dongle or whatever, I'm hoping that it gets delivered by the weekend, but looking into the menu, I can't see anywhere where it says network settings tab.

do I need to update it's firmware first & if so can somebody point me in the right direction on getting the latest update for this type of box please?

On plugging in the wifi dongle, will it flash up its own menu on screen so I can add my password from router to connect?

The seller on ebay btw, won't answer my emails so either way looks like I'm stuck with it despite he listed it as something it deffo is not :-(

    All help, greatly appreciated
    Thank you

Due to the fact the seller isn't answering you emails and by your statement of an incorrectly worded auction, just do a 'Item Not as described' return via ebay stating 'I was lead to believe it had an Ethernet interface which it clearly hasn't' . Either way it must go back 'tracked' so that you get a full refund. The seller should provided a postal payment for the return but if he doesn't ask ebay for one, so your not out of pocket.

If he doesn't answer ebay's return request or refuses to refund then ebay will automatically refund you the money after a certain amout of days. Stick by your guns, if the seller contacts you with a lame excuse ie 'I don't except returns bla bla bla' ie don't let the seller fob you off, tell him you want to return it and that's final. Then get a openbox/libertview v8s box with the refund.

The guy on the "other site" is talking rubbish. If he knew anything about your box, he would know that the wifi is embedded in that model. I would have told you that if I was still posting on that "other site". That's why after thousands of posts, I have finally given up posting on that forum. There are so many crap replies (not only from newbies) that it gets very frustrating. I'm surprised you weren't told to do a "factory settings". That seems to be a stock answer on that forum at the moment. LOL.

Anyway, having said all that, I've never had the M5 myself, so this is just from reading about others who have had the Libertview brand of receivers. It seems that a lot of them left the factory as FTA receivers, with firmware that didn't include the "network local settings" menu. If you definately cannot see a "network local settings" option, then it looks like you need to update the firmware. What firmware do you currently have (menu > tools > information > software ver.)?

The latest on the libertview site is 15/4/14:

Strangely enough, some Libertview owners have said that they get a file mismatch error when trying to update from the firmware on the Libertview site, so downloaded from the skybox site instead:-

The Libertview brand was reportedly brought about to replace the Skybox brand to stop BskyB from getting their knickers in a twist over copyright infringement.

If you really don't want this box, then as martin035 says, you can return it as "SNAD" (significantly not as described). I notice that he still has "Ethernet port" in the "item specifics". I'm not sure if that can be edited, as it's probably the one compiled by Ebay. That's why I never use those Ebay supplied "item specifics" when I sell anything on Ebay. They are often wrong. Saying that, it was still up to the seller to check it before listing.
