Channel up/down not working

Hi there, I have 2 v8s boxes. Was away for the weekend, and mother in law "pressed some buttons" on the remote of one of them and now I can't change channels using the up down buttons (arrow buttons around the ok button). The buttons work up and down in the menus ok, so it's not the remote. The second box is working fine so I think it's not a software update issue. Any help please as my son is wrecking my head? If the remote works ok on another box then its a box problem. Easiest way is to save the important bits and update the software. If you have the online update you can just update as the important bits dont changes.
