    Next box to go for

    Hi guys!!

I've had an openbox v8s and also the skybox F3 but find the openbox to be the better box, I've also had the dm800hdse for a good few years now but the tuner keeps going every so often which is annoying so what could I possibly go for next which is good all rounder as the dm800 but not as expensive?

The openbox are cheap but you get what you pay for on that front!!

I use a Zgemma 2s which is a great step up from an openbox. It's at the cheap end of the Linux e2 market but does the job of a recordable Sat receiver very well, however, it is rubbish with things like Kodi or ts media.

Another box I've heard good things about is a Wetek play, bit more expensive but this is an android box so will handle Kodi and other apps better.

      Thanks for that martin!

I have a fire stick which I have kodi on so won't need that anyway? I have heard a few good things about those zgemma boxes myself.

Just looking now to pull away from the dm800 as im sick of the tuners goin faulty every so often and spending ?35 on a new tuner.

I have loads of recorded content from the dm so I wonder if I could just put the hard drive straight into the zgemma and it will read the files?

Well, for another ?35 you can buy a Zgemma 2s off the ba, kinda saves you money in the long run.

The Zgemma will read the movies off the hard drive with no problems, However, for the Zgemma to use the record/timeshift/epg functions the hard drive need to initialised (formatted) and then converted to ext4 filesystem by the box, as you've got a DM800 linux box already there's a good chance you've already done this to the hard drive.

You got me thinking now! Lol

Just thought of getting another tuner but prob In another 5 months it will prob start goin faulty again?

I see zgemma do a combo box which has a dual tuner as we have cable in our area and sly but not sure if it can operate both at once? I would of thought using one then some how telling the box your moving to the other if that makes sense

Cheers guys. So I take it the h1 is the better box to go for as its a combo?

Also how do we go about doin the channel edits from time to time? I sometimes like to arrange the way I like them arranged. Lol

You can get the H1 or H2 nothing really different between them tbh you can do your own channel lists or just use auto bouquets for you region .

The combo box will give you the best of both world including all the HD channels available on cable but not sat.

Autobouquetsmaker will scan both cable and sat then place the channels in there relevant bouquets, you can manually edit the bouquets with your remote or use the bouquet editor on the openwebiff app (built in) via your PC

i like the idea of multi tuner boxes like the xtrend 8000 that can have 3 tuners [ your choice of tuners ] so one can record to internal hdd ,+ other are quad tuners .
linux open sourced boxes are a good choice.

The dm800se boxes are good but they have lots of problems and cost you money, I quite like these zgemma h1 boxes as they are very similar to the dm's in setup and also have combo tuners which is cool!!!

Think its end of days for the dreamboxes now!! :P

Zgemma or Sunray both are good boxes....but the Zgemma offers better value plus I think the build quality is better as well
just a shame you cant run a Blackhole image on the box

What would be the best image to put on the zgemma?

I hear the sly one is ok to use??

The 2 most popular images at the moment are OpenVix and OpenAtv. Both do the job, however, the OpenVix image uses patched drivers to work on the Zgemma, this means it's not fully supported by the openvix team to a point where if you mention the zgemma on their forum you will get abuse and rude comments, also with the Openvix image updates have to be done by re-flashing the Zgemma as over the Air updates don't work. OpenAtv image is the opposite, full supported by the openatv team and updates can be carried out over the air, so no need to flash the box every 7-10 days. I've used both and from a day to day usage there's not much difference, but now use OpenAtv as I think the long term support will be better and that the people who patch the openvix image could stop there support anytime.

That's a skin, designed to make the Zgemma look like a $ky box, works on OpenAtv and Openvix images.
