No Picture Openbox V8s all channels

    Hello.

The openbox worked fine last night, today the tv's saying 'no signal received' from it.

I've tried it with a different hdmi lead in a different hdmi socket.

The box appears to be working fine. I've rebooted and the remote moves the channels up and down, but the tv screen is still black with no sound.

    All help appreciated!

A complete black screen, absolutely nothing on the screen at all, not even the channel bar at the bottom

And I've run through the v-format button thing a few times too. The sky multiroom box upstairs is working fine so it's not an issue with the dish.

Right, so it works upstairs but not downstairs.

Doesn't work in either of the two hdmi sockets downstairs and with different hdmi leads.

I'm guessing I need to wait till it's light and check if the cable's disconnected from the dish?

But then you say a black screen ? no bottom bar ?

When the box is connected downstairs setup as it should be..........

Press the menu on the remote.......see if you get the menu screen on the TV

If not then its the settings on the TV downstairs

This is nothing to do with the cable from the dish............

As P&D says, if you get nothing at all on the TV (no menus etc.) then it won't be your dish cable that's at fault.

Try a scart lead. If it then displays OK, try going through the video resolutions again to see if one of them works through the HDMI.

                  Cheers for all the replies.

I've trued the v-format button when the box is downstairs and there's still nothing. No menu bar at any time and no picture when it goes through the v-format options and waiting 5-10 seconds on each one.

I don't have a scart lead in the house.

If I connect the box back upstairs what do I need to change in the menu on the box?

If it works on a hd tv upstairs then why would it not work on the hd tv downstairs?

There's nothing on the screen when I press menu, it's completely blank.

There are no settings that I can find on the tv downstairs to alter that might change the settings.

Right, so to go over again/clarify

I switch the box and the tv on, turn the tv onto hdmi 1 as the box boots up and goes through the 1-100' the tv flashes up 'no video available' then the screen goes completely blank.

The box operates as normal, going up and down the channels but no picture is displayed on the screen and no openbox menu bar is on the screen at any time.

The box works fine on an upstairs tv.

I have gone through the 'v-format' button several times and the screen is still blank, although 'no video available' appears when the 480I option is displayed on the front of the box.

I have tried different hdmi leads and different hdmi sockets on the downstairs tv. I do not have a scart lead but can access the openbox menu when I put the box upstairs if there is something I need to change there.

I cannot find any settings to alter on the tv itself.

Right, had the box upstairs again.

The v-format button goes through all the options and a picture is displayed on all of them. Upstairs tv is full hd as is downstairs.

Same leads, same box, same buttons pressed on the remote downstairs and tried in both hdmi sockets on my tv and no picture at all is shown on the screen on any of the v-format options.

So I guess it's in my tv settings somewhere.

A long shot, but does anybody know what might be the solution?

Leave it on 720p 50hz safest option

                            Thanks for the reply.

I've just been upstairs and on the tv that the box works on, I have changed the settings to 720p 50hz.

I've brought the box downstairs, plugged it into the downstairs tv with the same leads and the screen is still completely blank.

Wish I hadn't sold the old sky box on ebay last week, this openbox has been a whole lot of hassle.

If other devices work on the same HDMI input on your TV as the one you are using with your V8, then it looks like the HDMI socket on the V8 may be faulty.

It won't be the first time that members have reported broken HDMI sockets on skyboxes/Openboxes.

If you could beg/steal/borrow a scart lead (or buy one from Poundland), you will probably find that it works with that.
