Openbox v8s - Lan Tool and AJ channel list compatible?

    Hello all,

I am going to buy an OpenV8s box to replace my Skybox F5 which is constantly rebooting, even after a flash.
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-LATEST.../231933796289?

    A couple of questions:

    1. Does AJ Channel list work with this model?
    2. Does the LAN TOOL work with this box, or can I only upgrade the channels via USB?
    3. Do the remote controls for a Skybox work with the openbox?
    4. What is the reliability of this model, and if possible, are there better boxes that support points 1, 2 and 3?

    Thanks.

As your looking to get a new box and you've already picked up the basics of sat boxes, why not go the extra step and get a better box, the next step up would be a Zgemma HS , you won't regret it.

    To answer your question with regards to the Zgemma;
    1. Not required the Zgemma auto scans for channel changes daily
    2. Not required
    3. New remote provided
    4. I went from an openbox v5s to Zgemma s2 to a Zgemma H.2s which is a dual tuner version of the HS and have had no problems with reliability

The Zgemma also has a better user interface and a more reliable EPG, available from the bay for around ?50ish

Thanks for the response. With the ZGemma Star S, am I able to insert my own subscription code like with the Skybox F3/F5 models? Is there a guide on how to do this as Im rather unfamiliar with the interface of the ZGemma's?

I would still like to know if the Openbox v8s matches the points 1 to 4 on my original post, just to weigh up the options.

Do not get the Zgemma S version, you want the HS version, the S is starting to show it's age and isn't as responsive as the HS, everything you need to setup the Zgemma HS is in the link below, your sub code is also compatible and easy to transfer, a Linux E2 box may look daunting but there's plenty of help available from the members on the forum.

This Backup Image is for the Newer H series of Zgemma Satellite receivers, it will work on the H.S and H.2s and confirmed working on the H.2H by Hadron @post #116 (requires additional setup for cable see post #119) but hasn't been tested on the H5 Openatv5.3 Backup Image with New improved Sky Skin, OTA update safe ?

          1) Yes
          2) Yes *
          3) Yes...for the more popular models. There were 1 or 2 (the Openbox X3 for example) that used different remote codes.
          4) Never actually owned the V8s myself, but have bought various other models of openbox/skybox on ebay for repair.

As martin035 suggests, the Zgemmas are great little boxes. No more channel lists or EPG to update. It's all done automatically for you. And a great looking $ky skin. I don't know why it's taken me so long to convert!

Install martin035's great backup image where 99.9% of all the hard work has been done for you. You will need to enter your "magic" by ftp, using a program like Filezilla.

          * Some members in the past have had problems with the LAN tool causing the box to lock up after a few seconds. There was a long thread on here about it a year or 2 ago.

To overcome the locking up problem, when transferring files using the Lan tool make sure it is in standby with the time showing on the front.
