I had the same problem with a box, but I had to flash it using a null modem cable.

it will only take 1min ,
atm not got the openbox to hand , all some one needs to do is map it out ,
IE
menu
down
down
ok
down
ok left
ok exit

That was initially what I thought as well, but the options that I wanted (language options or USB upgrade) were not accessible for some reason. So flashing with the null modem cable had to be done.
