hi i am a newbie to this dreambox and i am looking into buying one. firstly would i need to conect the dreambox to a satalite dish and would i need a card. and would it have to be conected to the internet.

i'm new a well so......
you will need a feed connected to the box. (if its just sly you want - you can just connect that to the box.)
you can stick a sly card in or any other provider card in and it will work. bear in mind some providers pair their cards to a specific box eg. sly. for this sittuation, you would need to get a boxkey to put in a file on the box. this would then open the premium channels that the card has subs to.
if you don't have a sly sub or any other..............and you still want the channels to open up.........................
you will have to look for an alternative forum as this one does not allow the discussion of CARDSHARING ....which is when google will help you out.

Yes you will need to conenct it to a satelitte dish correctly alligned for the sateliite from whcih you want recieve channels, if SLY UK , then 28.2E Astra, or just use an exisiting standard sly dish thats already installed.
You will need a card if you plan to set up your own server and share with friends/fmaily, in a private ring...or if you plan to buy a foreign card to swap packages with other people.
Im guessing your just looking at having a single box and recieving Sly channels, in which case, you DO NOT necceasily need a card, you can pay a monthly fee to a pay server that will provide you channels via CS.
Yes, you will need your reciever conencted to the internet at all times if you wish to recieve channels via CS, otherwise you will only recive Free To Air Channls.Comment
